Is the Lingshan Giant Buddha a World Heritage Site?

The Lingshan Giant Buddha is not a world heritage site.

Most of the buildings in Wuxi Lingshan Giant Buddha are man-made, so they are not intangible cultural heritage.

The Lingshan Giant Buddha is part of the Lingshan Scenic Area in Wuxi City, a national 5A-level scenic spot. It is located on the south side of Qinlu Peak in Mashan, Wuxi and was built in 1997. The location of the Giant Buddha is Xiaoling Mountain named by Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty, hence the name Lingshan Giant Buddha. Lingshan Giant Buddha is one of the symbols of Wuxi and is of great significance to social, cultural and economic development.

The history of the Lingshan area can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty more than 1,000 years ago. It is said that Xuanzang returned from studying in the West and traveled to the southeast. When he came to Xiaoling Mountain, he saw "layers of green mountains". The scenery was extraordinary and greatly impressed. He praised it and said, "There is no difference in the victory of the vulture of Xizhu Kingdom"! So the mountain was named Xiaoling Mountain. The Vulture Mountain in India is the place where Sakyamuni attained enlightenment and became a Buddha. It is a famous Buddhist holy place, and he asked his disciple Qiu Ji to conduct the Dharma here. Xiaolingshan Temple gradually developed from this. The Lingshan Giant Buddha, which stands at the southern foot of Xiaoling Mountain, is 88 meters tall including the lotus seat, which is equivalent to the height of a thirty-story building. It is taller than Leshan, Sichuan, where "a mountain is a Buddha and a Buddha is a mountain". The Giant Buddha is seventeen meters taller and is the second tallest giant Buddha statue in China. If the three-story base is added, the total height reaches 10.5 meters. The Lingshan Buddha looks down with wise and kind eyes. No matter whether tourists approach or go far away, they seem to be concerned by the eyes of the Buddha; and as people approach or move away, their eyes seem to open and close slightly. The closer they get, the wider their eyes open; the corners of their mouths seem to be smiling but not smiling. Smile, but no words are spoken, and many instructions are about to be spoken, which makes people feel more cordial and triggers all kinds of reveries. When you get close to the Buddha and look up, you will see white clouds lingering in the blue sky, giving you the feeling that the Buddha is "moving". All parts of the body of the Lingshan Giant Buddha are well-proportioned and moderate, and the pleats on the clothes are bright, smooth, elegant and agile, which adds to the sense of movement, making it very suitable for viewing from a distance or up close.

The ticket price for Lingshan Giant Buddha is 210 yuan, and the opening hours are 8:30-17:30 in peak season and 8:30-17:00 in off-season.
