There is no claim that Chengdu "abandoned" the Sun Bird as its city logo. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Cultural Heritage Association and the Chengdu Government have been using this logo for many years and have reached a tacit understanding.

“Since the Sun Bird has been used by Chengdu for various aspects of publicity, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Chengdu government have a memorandum of understanding granting Chengdu the right to use the Sun Bird logo.”

In 2001, the Chengdu Cultural Relics and Archaeological Team registered a patent for the graphic appearance of the Sun Bird.

As the "Sun Bird" management unit authorized by the Chengdu Municipal Government, in order to effectively protect the intellectual property rights of the "Sun Bird", the Chengdu Cultural Relics and Archeology Team has applied for registration of more than 20 kinds of sand since 2001. "Sun Bird" graphic appearance patent, dozens of Jinsha "Sun Bird" graphic and text trademarks and related copyrights. However, in 2005, a company in Chengdu successfully registered the remaining categories of the second and forty-fifth categories of the "Sun Bird" graphic trademark that were not registered by the Chengdu Cultural Relics and Archaeological Team. After consultation, the company donated the acceptance notices for these two types of trademarks to the Chengdu Cultural Relics and Archaeological Team during the "Chinese Cultural Heritage Day Sichuan Chengdu Week".
