(1) Examination of trademark form: After the trademark application is submitted, the Japan Trademark Office will examine the legality of the submitted application documents, trademark patterns and other documents, and finally examine the date when the trademark meets the requirements will be issued and the application number of the trademark.

(2) Examination of the essence of a trademark: according to Japanese laws, examine whether a trademark is applicable, whether it is the same as or similar to a previously applied trademark, and whether it violates the prohibition clause of the Trademark Law. For trademarks that have not passed the substantive examination, official website will issue a notice of rejection to inform the applicant, and will tell the applicant after rejection. The applicant may submit a reconsideration of the trademark application within the time limit after receiving the notice of rejection, otherwise, the trademark application will be regarded as abandoned.

(3) Announcement of trademark application: If it is approved after examination, the Trademark Office will publish an announcement on the official trademark announcement of Japan for the applied trademark.

(4) Approval of trademark application: If there is no objection or the objection is not established during the announcement period, then the trademark can be successfully registered. The whole process of Japanese trademark application will take about six to eight months if it goes well.
