"Xinken Lotus Root" is famous both at home and abroad. It is named after it is produced in the Xinken area of ??Wanqingsha Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou City. It is said that it won the gold medal at the Panama International Expo in the 1970s, and obtained the green food certification from the Ministry of Agriculture in 1999. It is one of the top ten agricultural brands in Guangzhou.
Because Xinken is located in the reclamation area at the mouth of the Pearl River, with thick mud, abundant water, clean environment, and a suitable climate, the lotus roots produced are of high quality and have a unique flavor: the lotus roots harvested in summer are tender, white, and crispy. The taste is sweet and fragrant; the lotus roots harvested in autumn and winter are plump and plump, with a strong flavor of pine powder and lotus root.
The harvesting season for newly cultivated lotus roots generally starts after August of the lunar calendar, but smart merchants often buy out the lotus roots in the entire lotus root field before August by buying "lotus root green". Lotus roots are kept fresh in Harada, and it is said that they wait until around the Spring Festival when Hubei and other places cannot produce lotus roots, and then sell them in batches, making a huge profit.
Xinken lotus root was mainly exported in the past and was rarely sold in ordinary domestic vegetable markets. Therefore, although many people have heard of "Xinken lotus root", not many people actually know "Xinken lotus root". The difference between newly cultivated lotus roots and lotus roots produced in other places is that newly cultivated lotus roots have a short and round tube, slightly thicker lotus root skin, stronger color and fragrance, and fresh lotus roots can be stored for a longer period of time.
In recent years, with the strong support of various relevant departments, the planting and production of "Xinken Lotus Root", a local famous product, has made great progress. The current planting area has reached more than 20,000 acres, and the annual output has reached 32,000 tons. Thanks to the breakthrough in the vacuum preservation technology of lotus roots, the shelf life of lotus roots has been extended from four to six days to four or five months, and lotus roots have been put on the shelves of some supermarkets and food chain stores in vacuum packaging. However, consumers must identify the place of origin and registered trademark when purchasing.
