Extended data:
There are two main standards for vehicle identification numbers. The first standard is ISO3779 adopted by the European Union, and the second standard is mainly used in North America, which is stricter than the first standard, but they are still compatible with each other.
The first three digits of VIN are called WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier), which is used to identify the name and country of the manufacturer.
For manufacturers that produce less than 500 cars a year, the third digit of VIN will use 9 characters, and the second digit of VIN will be identified by 12- 14.
Some manufacturers will use the third place of VIN as the classification of vehicles, such as trucks or buses. Take the vehicles produced by Volvo in Sweden as an example. YV 1 for cars, YV2 for trucks and YV3 for buses and buses.
