In 2008, Qijiang completed a 100,000-acre papaya industry project. It has obtained the national pollution-free papaya product origin certification and is applying for the national green food certification base. In 2011, it was named the Hometown of Excellent Papayas in China; the average life cycle of papaya trees is more than 100 years. It is understood that the current papaya output in Qijiang has reached tens of thousands of tons, and it is expected to enter the peak period in about three years, with output reaching 60,000 to 80,000 tons.

In 2013, "Qijiang Papaya" applied by the Chongqing Qijiang District Federation of Rural Cooperative Economic Organizations was approved and registered as China's national geographical indication certification trademark by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.
