Introduction to the United States
The United States was originally a settlement of Indians. At the end of the 15th century, Spain, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom and others immigrated here one after another. Before the 18th century, Britain established 13 British North American colonies on the Atlantic coast of the United States. In 1775, the American people's War of Independence broke out against the colonial rule of the British Empire.
On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress was held in Philadelphia. George Washington, commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, issued the Declaration of Independence, declaring the formal establishment of the United States of America. The War of Independence ended in 1783, and Britain recognized the independence of 13 colonies. The U.S. Constitution was adopted in 1787 and a federal country was established
The administrative division structure of the United States is:
1. Fifty-one states, divided into counties and districts, and under the city structure. Cities, townships, towns, villages and other grassroots administrative areas. With the exception of the original thirteen colonies, the remaining states became part of the United States of America by act of Congress.
2. The District of Columbia is the capital city of Washington. Although the District of Columbia is not a state and has only one non-voting representative in the House of Representatives and no representative in the Senate, residents of the District can still participate in voting. The president also has voting representatives in the Electoral College.
