In 2005, Guangxi Famous Brands also had a special discussion on the planting of navel oranges in Fuchuan, and the general history of the Yao people in China also had a special record on the planting of navel oranges in Fuchuan. Navel oranges have become Fuchuan's main industry. Navel oranges are grown in 12 towns in the county. In 1996, Newhall and Robertson navel oranges won gold and silver awards respectively at the China Agricultural Expo. In 1996, they were designated as navel orange production bases by the National South Asia Office. In 1997, they were awarded the green food label. In 2003, they were awarded the "Rich" -"Navel orange was rated as the 2002 Guangxi famous brand and high-quality product.
In 1981, Fuchuan imported American navel oranges from the China Citrus Research Institute. After years of careful "care", Fuchuan navel oranges have become what they are today. In fact, many people don’t know that it was an accident that navel oranges settled in Bucheon. One day in 1981, the China Citrus Research Institute in Chongqing imported 200 navel orange seedlings from the United States and planned to "marry" the seedlings to Fuzhou City. This batch of fruit seedlings arrived at Fuzhou Airport by plane. After taking a few short breaths, they actually returned to Chongqing. What happened? It turned out that when Guomiao arrived at the airport, there was no one to "welcome" her.
This kind of thing makes the China Citrus Research Institute "very embarrassed". The China Citrus Research Institute decided to find a new “in-law” for these 200 American navel orange seedlings. After analyzing the climate environment in northeastern Guangxi, experts from the China Citrus Research Institute believe that Fuchuan is also suitable for navel orange cultivation. In this way, 200 American navel orange seedlings boarded the plane again and flew to Guilin. The personnel of the relevant departments in Fuchuan were so excited that they had been waiting at the airport in Guilin for a long time. After receiving the "bride", they immediately returned to Fuchuan and planted them at the Fuchuan Lixin Farm as soon as possible.
After the fruit seedlings were planted, they were counted and found that there were only 197, not the 200 mentioned by the China Citrus Research Institute. Later, the reason was analyzed and it was probably that three fruit seedlings died during the transfer. There are 7 varieties of these 197 fruit seedlings: "Newhall", "Navelina", "Omishima", "Hua Navel" (i.e. Washington navel orange), "Frost", "Robertson", and "Ponna" ". In the United States, they are all excellent varieties. After arriving in Fuchuan, not all of them adapted. Some had low yields and some were not promising in the market. For example, the "Pengna" navel orange is very large in shape and is not easy to sell in the domestic market. "Newhall" navel oranges and "Hua Navel" are widely promoted in Fuchuan due to their good quality, high yield, moderate fruit shape, and different launch times. Currently, these two varieties of Fuchuan navel oranges are mainly used.
After more than 20 years of hard work, Fuchuan navel oranges have grown from a mere 197 plants to a planting scale of 182,000 acres in 2009. As for how many plants there are, no one has counted them. Another number illustrates this: in recent years, more than 800,000 navel orange seedlings have been cultivated in Bucheon every year.
The year Fuchuan navel orange became famous was 1995, when it happened to be "14 years old".
At the Second Agricultural Exposition of the Ministry of Agriculture that year, three varieties of Fuchuan navel oranges, "Newhall", "Robertson" and "Pengna", won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
The unique land resources and natural environment have created Fuchuan navel oranges, which are characterized by bright color, crisp and tender meat, rich flavor, no nuclear residue, and soluble solids (mainly referring to sugar content) as high as 13 %~15%. Generally speaking, fruits with more than 13% soluble solids are considered sweet. In addition, another characteristic of Bucheon navel oranges is that they smell delicious.
In the more than 10 years since 1995, Fuchuan navel oranges have won awards one after another, not only domestically, but also internationally. It is worth mentioning that in October 2006, more than 30 counties in the country's four major navel orange producing areas sent 95 samples to participate in the competition. Fuchuan's Fu-Navel Orange won first place and won the title of "China's Famous Brand Agricultural Products" for the first time in the country. .
