Fuding City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province and is administratively affiliated with Ningde City.
Fuding is located in the northeastern part of Fujian Province. It has always been the gateway to Fujian and Zhejiang and the strategic point of Wu and Yue. It borders the East China Sea to the southeast, Cangnan County of Zhejiang Province to the northeast, Taishun County of Zhejiang Province to the northwest, Zherong County to the west, and Xiapu County to the south. Fenshui Pass, 16 kilometers northeast of the city, is the dividing point between Fuding City and three counties in Taishun and Cangnan provinces of Zhejiang Province. It has been the Fujian-Vietnam Pass for thousands of years since ancient times.
The urban area is 230 kilometers away from the provincial capital Fuzhou in the south, 84 kilometers away from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province in the north, and 142 nautical miles from Keelung Port in Taiwan in the east. The city has a total land area of ??1,526.31 square kilometers, a sea area of ??14,959.7 square kilometers, and jurisdiction over 17 towns (streets, development zones). The main ethnic group in the jurisdiction is Han.

Fuding is a famous tea area in China. It is one of the top ten tea counties and cities in the country and a demonstration county and city for the development of China's tea industry. Lu Yu's "Tea Classic" of the Tang Dynasty records: "There is White Tea Mountain three hundred miles east of Yongjia." It means that White Tea Mountain is Taimu Mountain in Fuding.
