Production method: Tetradecanoic acid can be obtained by vacuum fractionation of mixed fatty acid or mixed fatty acid methyl ester obtained from coconut oil and palm kernel oil under drought conditions. Laboratory preparation can be saponified with triglyceride and 10% sodium hydroxide solution, and then acidified with hydrochloric acid to obtain free tetradecanoic acid. It can also be prepared by tetradecanol method.
Uses: Mainly used as raw materials for the production of surfactants, used for the production of sorbitol fatty acid esters, glycerol fatty acid esters, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol fatty acid esters, etc. It can also be used to produce isopropyl myristate and so on. Also used as defoaming agent and flavoring agent. According to GB2760-89, it can be used to prepare various edible spices.
