Time: QQ is an Internet-based instant messaging network tool independently developed by Tencent in February 1999 - Tencent Instant Messenger (Tencent Instant Messenger, referred to as TM or Tencent QQ).
At the beginning of its establishment: When it was established, its main business was to establish an online paging system for paging stations. This kind of software development project for enterprises or units can be said to be the best choice for almost all small and medium-sized network service companies. It is the predecessor of Tencent QQ.
Development history:
1. Name change controversy
QQ is an Internet-based instant messaging network tool independently developed by Tencent in February 1999 - Tencent Tencent Instant Messenger (TM or Tencent QQ for short) has won the favor of users with its reasonable design, good applications, powerful functions, and stable and efficient system operation.
QQ used to imitate ICQ. It is an international chat tool, which means I seek you. OICQ imitates ICQ and adds a letter O in front of ICQ, which means opening. I seek you, which means "open ICQ", but it was accused of infringement, so Tencent boss (Ma Huateng) changed the name of OICQ to QQ, which is the QQ we use now.
In addition to the name change, the logo of Tencent QQ has not changed. It has always been a little penguin. Because the little penguin in the logo is very cute and charming and very popular with girls, it is called cute in English. Because cute and Q are homophonic, so the little penguin paired with QQ is also a good name.
2. Trademark disputes
By 2000, Tencent’s OICQ basically occupied nearly 100% of China’s online instant messaging market, and it had basically become instant messaging in China. Industry hegemon, trouble has arisen at this time. AOL sent a lawyer's letter to Tencent. ICQ is a registered trademark of AOL, so any similar software using the word ICQ in its name will infringe its right to use the trademark.
AOL requires Tencent to change the name of OICQ, otherwise it will go to court. Therefore, in the OICQ2000Build0325 version, OICQ made another change to protect itself in advance. The 0325 version calls itself "QQ2000" from the beginning of the installation file to avoid legal conflicts with ICQ.
Later, for convenience, it was renamed QQ. QQ was originally a nickname given to OICQ by netizens, but overnight it became the new name of OICQ.
3. Early development
In 2001, Tencent integrated advertising into QQ for the first time. Before the QQ2005 Beta3 version, TT Browser was bundled with the QQ installation program and was installed by default. .
Many early third-party QQ versions (such as Caohual QQ, Muzi QQ) were originally designed to block QQ advertisements and some unnecessary software and plug-ins, and also added many new functions to QQ. Such as displaying IP address, checking whether friends are invisible, etc. Third-party QQ versions that include the function of displaying IP addresses are often called "IPQQ".
QQ for Linux is an instant messaging software based on the Linux platform released by Tencent on July 31, 2008. Mainly used to clean up third-party QQ on Linux platform. However, QQ for Linux has been discontinued. The official cross-platform WebQQ is rarely updated, and its functions have lagged behind other desktop clients.
Ubuntu Chinese (Ubuntu.org.cn) once mobilized users to complain to Tencent customer service, but to no avail. Tencent has also been blocking related third-party QQ software, and Linux users are already in a state where it is extremely difficult to use QQ.
