It is a good variety for fresh food and has developed rapidly in recent years. Dongkui bayberry originated from Huangyan. Its mother tree is a solid tree. It has been more than 100 years ago. In the 1970s, a professor from Zhejiang Agricultural University named it Dongkui bayberry, which means "the top of the East". The large fruit is rare in the world and is currently the largest. The largest bayberry in my country and even the world is known as the "Yangmei King"!

Huangyan Dongkui bayberry is the main industry of Huangyan, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is also the largest fruit variety of bayberry in my country and even in the world. It was first developed from the bayberry garden in Dong'ao Village, Jiangkou Town, Huangyan in the late 1950s. It was selected and named Dongkui Yangmei by Wu Gengmin, a leading figure in China's horticulture circle and former horticulture department of Zhejiang Agricultural University, which means "the leader of the East".

Huangyan Dongkui Bayberry was named Dongkui Bayberry by Mr. Wu Gengmin, the former Horticulture Department of Zhejiang Agricultural University, which means the leader of the East. It is one of the important bayberry variety resources in my country. The existing cultivation area is about 1,300 hectares, and the output in 2005 can reach more than 8,000 tons. This variety has extra-large fruits, with a maturity period from the end of June to early July. The average fruit weight is 25 grams, and the largest fruit weighs 50 grams. The fruit is spherical in shape, with an average longitudinal and transverse diameter of 3.93 cm × 3.76 cm, an edible rate of 94.8%, and a soluble solids content of 11.7%. It is not easy to drop during the mature period and is more resistant to storage and transportation. The fruit can be eaten fresh, canned, and processed into shochu and bayberry. Huangyan Dongkui Bayberry has a history of more than a hundred years. It has developed rapidly in recent decades and has become one of the main varieties grown in Huangyan. In 1998, Dongkui Bayberry was awarded the Zhejiang Province Gold Medal for High-Quality Agricultural Products. In 1999, it was recognized as a famous brand product by the Beijing International Agricultural Expo. Our district attaches great importance to quality brands and is applying for a registered trademark for Dongkui Bayberry. A set of Dongkui Bayberry series standards has been formulated and has been promulgated and implemented. In October 2001, Huangyan was named the "Hometown of Bayberry in China" by the State Forestry Administration.
