Trademarks cannot be renewed in advance. Trademark renewal can only begin 12 months before the trademark expires. There is a grace period of 6 months if the contract is not renewed upon expiration. The period of validity of a registered trademark is 10 year. If no application is filed within the grace period, its registered trademark shall be cancelled. After examining the application for trademark renewal registration, the Trademark Office will issue a trademark renewal certificate and will not issue another trademark registration certificate. The original Trademark Registration Certificate will be used together with the Trademark Renewal Certificate. The Trademark Office will issue two documents, a notice of acceptance of trademark renewal within 45 working days and a certificate of renewal within 4-6 months. To apply for the renewal of a registered trademark, the corresponding application documents shall be submitted: (1) application for trademark renewal registration; (2) applicant's ID card (photocopy); (3) power of attorney of the entrusted agent, and a photocopy of the agent's ID card directly handled in the reception hall; (4) photocopy of the registration certificate; (5) if the application documents are in a foreign language, a Chinese translation signed and confirmed by a translation agency shall also be provided.
