The railway station was designed by Germans Weierle and Geddelz and constructed by Shandong Railway Company. The building had a German Renaissance architectural style. The waiting hall has a tall decorative gable and three large ticket doors that highlight the main entrance facing the city. A graceful bell tower rises from the south corner of the building. It is located on the axis of Guangxi Road and Lanshan Road, becoming the opposite view of Lanshan Road. . The train station became the terminal station of Jiaoji Railway and became one of Qingdao's landscape buildings.

The overall shape is dynamic, stretched and elegant, tall and tense, just like a seagull flying high, symbolizing the vigorous development of Qingdao's economy and culture. The design of Qingdao North Station is inspired by the impression of Qingdao's seaside, giving people unlimited reverie; at the same time, it uses novel and unique cross arches as the main structural system of the building to support the graceful curved roof, forming an image of Qingdao's gateway, symbolizing Qingdao's broad Welcome guests from all over the world.
