What is alcohol?
Alcohol refers to fusel oil, a mixture of fatty alcohols containing more than 2 carbon atoms, and a monovalent alcohol containing more than 3 carbon chains. It is the main by-product of the production of ethanol and beer by the fermentation of cereal crops, including n-propanol, isobutanol, isoamyl alcohol, active amyl alcohol and phenylethanol.

Product use: can be used as solvent. It can also be used as fuel, flotation agent and so on. Used as perfume, plasticizer and paint.

Fusel oil contains many low-carbon alcohols, which can form boiling substances with water, resulting in fusel oil generally containing 12% ~ 30% water, and water is an important factor affecting the purity of the extract. As a raw material, it is generally required that the water content of fusel oil is below 15% and the content of isoamyl alcohol is above 45%. There are four commonly used dehydration methods: quicklime reflux dehydration, 4A molecular sieve dehydration, solid salt dehydration and salt water salting-out dehydration.

Fusel oil type

1, isoamyl alcohol

Colorless liquid with unpleasant smell. Slightly soluble in water, miscible in organic solvents such as alcohol and ether. Used as photographic chemicals, essences and analytical reagents, and also used in organic synthesis and pharmacy. This product naturally exists in some plants in the form of ester. It can be made from mixed alcohol produced by chlorination and hydrolysis of pentane, or it can be made from fusel oil by fractionation.

2. Butanol

Colorless liquid, with alcohol smell, miscible with organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, and the vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is1.45-11.25 (by volume). N-butyl plasticizer is mainly used to make phthalic acid, aliphatic dibasic acid and phosphoric acid. It is widely used in various plastics and rubber products, and is also the raw material for making butyraldehyde, butyric acid, butylamine and butyl lactate in organic synthesis.
