Shishuang Mountain is located in Jingang Town in the south of Liuyang City. It is famous for its steep mountains and beautiful waters, and the frost sprays when touching the rocks. Historical records record: "When Dharma and Taoism were at their peak, both Shi Shuang and Dao Wu were the places to choose Buddhas." The temple was first built during the reign of Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty. According to the inscription and "Shishuang Temple Brief Introduction", the temple was built by Li Xuan (874-888), Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty, under the supervision of Prime Minister Pei Xiu. Shishuang Temple once had jurisdiction over 48 temples and 5,048 houses. Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty gave 300 stones of incense and fire fields, and it is said that he rode a horse to close the mountain gate. With the name "the temple is ninety feet high and the Buddha is seventy feet high", one can imagine the grandeur of the "Liuyang Giant Buddha" temple. In addition, there are statues of Pei Xiu and Bao Zheng added by later generations. The existing palaces include the Main Hall, the Guansheng Hall, the Ancestral Hall, the Zhaitang, the Ordination Hall, the Abbot's Room, and the Guest Dining Hall. There are also many stone tablets and wooden plaques. Unfortunately, the temple building has been in disrepair for a long time and is in a lot of decay.

Location: Located in Jingang Town, south of Liuyang City

There are one thousand-year-old cypress and one ancient ginkgo each inside the Pingshan Gate in front of the temple and behind the temple. It is said that when the cypress was still a seedling, it was to the left. It tilted, and the little novice wanted to pull it out, but Qingzhu stopped him and surrounded it with earth and stone barriers, so it was named Zuobai. It is 30 meters high, 80 centimeters in diameter at breast height, and has luxuriant branches and leaves. Nowadays, trees are dying and pagodas are piled up. The founder of the temple, Monk Qingzhu, and his successors are buried near the mountain behind the temple, but the ancient cypresses and ginkgo trees still stand behind the temple in the morning and evening. Shishuang Temple produced moral Zen masters, the famous ones include Puhui (Qingzhu), Ciming (Chu Yuan), Puwen (Longhu), Huinan, Fanghui, etc. There are five schools and seven sects of Chinese Zen Buddhism, two of which originated from Shishuang Temple "Chinese Buddhism" says: "There is Chu Yuan who lives in Chongsheng Temple in Shishuang. Under him are Huinan and Fanghui, who founded the Huanglong and Yangqi sects. They combined the first five schools and were named the Seventh Sect." According to legend, the Shingon Sect of Japanese Buddhism Both the Linji sect and the Linji sect originated from Shi Shuang.

Population, Language

Liuyang has a population of 1.34 million, an area of ??5,007 square kilometers, and jurisdiction over 33 towns, 4 sub-district offices, and 413 There are 300,000 married women of childbearing age in each village (residence) and more than 200,000 floating population.

Liuyang has been brutally massacred by wars in history, and most of the current residents moved there from various places in the early Qing Dynasty. Therefore, there are many dialects and ethnic groups that coexist. Dialect distribution map of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces

Hakka

The history of the Hakka (English: hakka) is the epitome of the history of the formation of the Han nation, full of The color of the bitter legend. During the Yongjia Rebellion in the Western Jin Dynasty, a large number of Han people from the Central Plains fled to avoid the disaster of war. After moving south to Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi, they formed their own unique language and customs, which were passed down from generation to generation. According to the research of historian Mr. Luo Xianglin, this group of Han ethnic groups later underwent four great migrations, and today they have spread far and wide at home and abroad. According to expert statistics, they are present in more than 180 cities and counties in more than 10 provinces and autonomous regions across the country and in more than 80 countries around the world. There are approximately 80 million to 100 million Hakkas in each country and region.

A large number of Hakka people moved into Liuyang in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, basically using Jiangxi as a springboard to come here. The reason why the Hakka ancestors moved into Liuyang in large numbers was mostly due to the expansion of the population of origin. , they had no choice but to move out in order to survive, and some moved out to avoid further intensification of conflicts after conflicts with Jiangxi people. Most of them had lived in Jiangxi. After these ancestors came to Liuyang, most of them gathered together to live together. Some people live together with the locals, and some do not call themselves Hakkas, but call themselves Cantonese.

The Hakka people in Liuyang are mainly distributed in the East District and North District. There are more than 20 towns and villages with Hakka people distributed, with a population of about 200,000, mainly concentrated in Dongxiang and Beixiang. Historically, the East District east of Gugang Town was basically a pure Hakka town. There are about ten towns in Dongxiang with Hakka distribution, such as Xiaohe (including the original Fengxi Township), Zhangfang (Shanghong, Renxi) and other places), Daweishan, Qibaoshan, Baisha, Dahu, Yanxi, Yonghe, Gugang, Sankou, Gaoping and other towns, with a population of about 150,000; Beixiang has Shegang, Longfu, Shashi, Shantian, In towns such as Chunkou, the number of Hakkas is about 50,000. In addition to the above, there are some scattered distributions within the city (such as Zhonghe and other towns in Nanxiang).

The Hakka people moved to Hunan from Jiangxi as a springboard and have thrived here for more than 300 years. The most surprising thing is that there is no difference between the Hakka dialect in Liuyang and the Hakka dialect in eastern Guangdong. It is possible to communicate fluently in the city, and there are basically no obstacles. However, the only places with strong Hakka customs are Xiaohe and Zhangfang, while the Hakka culture in other towns and villages has not been preserved much, especially the loss of the Hakka identity. Hakka dialect. In some towns in the Eastern District, such as Yanxi, Yonghe, Gugang, Guandu and other places, some elderly people can still speak fluent Hakka, but their descendants can no longer speak Hakka. Thinking of Hakka People's ancestors said, "It is better to sell 0 fields than 0 words", which can't help but make people sigh.

As Han people who migrated south in ancient times, the Hakka language also preserves a large number of ancient words with ancient sounds and rhymes, such as: eat - eat, sleep - sleep, rain - fall into the water, you - - You, us - I, etc.

It is worth mentioning that in the modern history of China, some Liuyang Hakkas (or descendants of Hakkas) have achieved great achievements, and their fame will last forever. The most outstanding of these people include Li Zhen, China's first female general, General Yang Yong, commander of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, General Secretary of the 0 Central Committee - etc.

At present, Liuyang Hakka culture is in a marginalized position, disappearing and assimilating seriously. Hakka culture is already facing a crisis in Liuyang and needs urgent protection.

Gan dialect

The "Liuyang dialect" spoken in Liuyang urban area and most of the southern district belongs to the Yi (chun) Liu (yang) dialect of Gan dialect and is the common language of Liuyang.

Gan dialect is mainly spoken in most of Jiangxi, southeastern Hunan, southeastern Hubei, southwestern Anhui and northwest Fujian, and is the de facto public language in these areas. The number of people who speak Gan language is about 51.48 million, accounting for about 5% of China's population.

Gan language can be divided into nine dialects, with Nanchang dialect as the representative or standard pronunciation. At the same time, the various dialects in Gan dialect are also very interoperable.

Gan dialect is not "Jiangxi dialect" in the strict sense. In addition to Gan dialect, there are also Chinese dialects such as Hakka, Wu, Jianghuai Mandarin, and Southwest Mandarin distributed in Jiangxi. At the same time, provinces such as Hunan, Fujian, Anhui, and Hubei also have Gan-speaking populations.

Yiliupian: including Yichun City, Yifeng, Shanggao, Qingjiang, Xingan, Xinyu City, Fengcheng City, Wanzai and other cities and counties. Liuyang and Liling cities in Hunan Province also belong to this area.

The characteristic of Yiliupian is that there are entering sounds, but there is no distinction between yin and yang. The characters such as "baibailuliu" have the same tone. There is no distinction between yin and yang in Qu Sheng. The sound of Fengcheng and Wanzai is divided into yin and yang, yin goes low and yin goes high, which is an exception.

Except for Xinyu, it is recommended that initial consonant aspiration does not affect tonal differentiation.

The tones in the four counties of Yifeng, Shanggao, Xingan and Wanzai have a phenomenon of tone change. The tone changes to a high-rising tone, indicating nicknames, nicknames, contempt and other emotional colors.

Xiang dialect

Liuyang Xiang dialect area is mainly distributed in Xixiang and Beixiang and other places, represented by Zhentou dialect.

The Xiang dialect, also known as the Xiang dialect or Hunan dialect, is mainly distributed in a considerable part of Hunan Province in mainland China, Chongqing and parts of Guangxi near Hunan; represented by Changsha dialect and Shuangfeng dialect.

Hunan can be divided into New Xiang and Old Xiang.

The main divisions of New Xiang are in Changsha (excluding the part near Jiangxi in Liuyang), Zhuzhou City, Zhuzhou County, Xiangtan City, Xiangtan County, Xiangyin in Yueyang, Miluo City, southern Huarong County, and most of Yiyang ( Urban area, Taojiang, Yuanjiang, Anhua, Nanxian). In addition, due to the rise of some large mining groups in southern Hunan in the middle of the last century, New Hunan has also formed dialect islands in some areas of southern Hunan, such as the Xiangyong Coal Mine in Yongxing County, Chenzhou, and the Baisha Coal and Electricity Group in Leiyang City, a subsidiary of Hengyang. New Xiang dialect is greatly influenced by Mandarin dialect and Gan dialect.

Old Xiang is distributed in Hengyang, Loudi, Shuangfeng, Xiangxiang, Yongzhou and other areas. It is less affected by external dialects and is better preserved. The degree of interoperability between the old and new Xiang dialects is low.
