Before the mid-Qing Dynasty, Yantai and Weihai were not even at the county level. Historically, they continued to be under the jurisdiction of Fushan County and Muping County of Dengzhou Prefecture (today's Laizhou and Penglai) in Laizhou Prefecture. In the late Qing Dynasty, there was no inequality between China and Britain. The signing of the treaty designated Yantai as one of the trading ports open to Britain. Subsequently, Yantai developed rapidly and became the central city of Jiaodong. Weihai developed as the base of the Beiyang Navy in the late Qing Dynasty. After liberation, Yantai was called the Yantai area, and Weihai was a county-level city in the Yantai area. In the late 1980s, Weihai was divided from the three counties of Rushan, Wendeng, and Rongcheng to establish Weihai City, a prefecture-level city on the same level as Yantai. Weihai immediately began to develop rapidly. Yantai and Weihai have basically the same geography and climate. Weihai's city size is smaller than Yantai's, and housing prices are relatively cheaper. Yantai's hardware construction needs to be improved. For example, the construction of ports, railways and airports is much earlier than that of Weihai, and the scale and routes are much larger. Therefore, people in Weihai often have to take flights and trains through Yantai when traveling. The agents of many companies in Jiaodong are basically in Yantai, but the company names are generally called Yanwei agents or Yanwei regional branches. The distance between Yantai and Weihai is about 45 kilometers. Historically, Yantai and Weihai are basically the same family!
