Lianjiang has a long history. The county was founded in the 5th year of Tang Wude (AD 622), and it was called Shicheng County. In the first year of Tang Tianbao, it was renamed Lianjiang County. Later, Luozhou Prefecture was established, and it was renamed Lianjiang County in 1915. In 1993, the county was abolished and a city was established. It has jurisdiction over 18 towns and three sub-district offices (Luozhou, Chengbei and Chengnan), covering an area of 2,835 square kilometers and a total population of more than 1.5 million. It is a county-level city with the largest population and a large area under the jurisdiction of Zhanjiang.
It belongs to the south subtropical monsoon climate, with abundant sunshine, abundant rainfall, fertile land, spring-like seasons and abundant natural resources. There are more than 2 kinds of mineral resources here, such as gold, silver, aluminum, zinc, tin, antimony, granite, limestone and basalt, among which silver ore and granite are among the best in Guangdong. There are abundant water resources here. Jiuzhou River runs through the southwest of the city for more than 8 kilometers, and the water area that can be developed and utilized in the city is 16, mu. There is also Hedi Reservoir, one of the three major reservoirs in Guangdong, with a storage capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters and a water area of 122 square kilometers. Dong Biwu, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yi, Guo Moruo and other national leaders visited and wrote inscriptions.
Lianjiang, with outstanding people, beautiful scenery, pleasant climate and abundant resources, is a good place to invest in home ownership. In 1995, it was awarded the title of "Hometown of Red Oranges in China" and "National Sanitary City", in 1996 it was awarded the title of "National Top 1 Afforestation Counties (Cities, Districts)", in 21 it was awarded the title of "Advanced Cultural City in South Guangdong" and "National Advanced County (City, District) for Marriage and Childbearing Activities" by the provincial government, and in 24 it was awarded the title of "National Advanced County (City, District)".
orange, an evergreen tree or shrub, has oval leaves, round and juicy fruit, red and yellow skin and sweet and sour taste. Lianjiang red orange, on the other hand, is large and beautiful, with thin skin and red flesh, and pure fragrance. It is one of the few citrus varieties in China that can rival the American "Sunkist" orange.
Lianjiang Red Orange is a high-quality citrus product selected and cultivated by the state-owned Hongjiang Farm in this city in 197s (Hongjiang Farm called it Hongjiang Orange). According to the national and provincial experts' appraisal, the variety source of Lianjiang Red Orange is the mosaic (fan-shaped) variant when Luojiang Liutian Orange and Jiangxi Red Orange are grafted. Only under the specific geographical location, soil, climate conditions and cultivation techniques of Lianjiang, its special excellent characters and quality are shown. It is well-known at home and abroad for its excellent color, fragrance and taste, and won the title of national high-quality fruit, which was designated as "a good fruit of state banquet", and Lianjiang City was also named "the hometown of red oranges in China" by the state.
from 1976 to 1991, Lianjiang red orange had grown to 136, mu, becoming the largest red orange production base in China. It is said that in 1991, the output of Lianjiang red orange reached 64, tons, and the output value exceeded 1 million yuan. Many farmers embarked on the road of getting rid of poverty and becoming rich because of planting oranges. However, since 1993, due to the lack of sufficient understanding of citrus "cancer" Huanglong disease, neglect of supervision, and the influx of diseased seedlings, insufficient follow-up funds, and poor management technology, the quality of Lianjiang red orange has seriously declined, and its production has also declined in a large area, from more than 136, mu in its heyday to less than 15, mu in 1998. Lianjiang has experienced unprecedented setbacks and produced red oranges.
The serious decline of Lianjiang red orange production has attracted great attention from provincial, municipal and local party committees and governments. In 1995, the province made a decision to allocate 5, yuan for Lianjiang's "Red Orange Restoration Project". Since this year, the curtain of "Red Orange Restoration Project" has been officially opened. However, after years of market baptism, Lianjiang people realized the necessity and urgency of standardized production of red oranges. In order to give full play to the advantages and brand effect of Lianjiang Red Orange, in recent years, Lianjiang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have attached great importance to the rescue and recovery of Lianjiang Red Orange, regarded Lianjiang Red Orange as a fist product to participate in the international market competition, re-established the brand of Lianjiang Red Orange, and made great efforts to build the fruit industry chain. They have invited and organized experts and professors from relevant scientific research units to tackle the virus-free problem of Huanglongbing, invested nearly 2 million yuan to establish a demonstration base for disease-free orange seedlings and do a good job in the breeding of disease-free orange seedlings. Unified breeding and supply of red oranges, standardized production of red oranges from the aspects of seedlings, technology and products, purification and improvement of seedlings to make the produced red oranges small or seedless, and strengthening the management and quality improvement of orange orchards to improve the fruit quality of red oranges. Since the end of 1998, Lianjiang Red Orange, a "good fruit of state banquet", has finally washed away the dirt and regained its former glory. At present, the area planted with red oranges in the city has reached 68, mu, and 35, mu has been put into production this year, with an estimated output of 2, tons.
In order to polish and protect this brand, the city registered the trademark "Lianjiang Red" for the red orange, and carefully packaged the red orange, making it enter the high-end ranks openly. In order to improve market awareness, do a good job in market sales, carry out all-round publicity and promotion, and make Red Orange famous. In 21, Lianjiang Red Orange won the A-level certification of national green food and the excellent product award of China International Agricultural Expo, and was immediately worth a hundred times, which quickly attracted the favor of many merchants. In 23, "Lianjiang Red" was awarded as a famous trademark and brand-name product in Guangdong Province. In that year, it went to Beijing to attend the first China Agricultural Products Fair, which was highly praised by people at home and abroad, and Lianjiang Red Orange rose again to glory.
In addition to red orange, Lianjiang has successively won the titles of national green food such as Guang Hai Chicken, Minghuang Tea, Meizhan Tea, Red Carambola and Guangliang Red Litchi.
