The origin of uppercase numbers
Capitalized numbers were invented in ancient times to prevent officials from tampering with digital crimes.
In the Ming Dynasty, a corruption case of senior officials caught the attention of the emperor. They used blank account books to make false accounts, forged figures and embezzled money and grain, totaling more than 24 million. Such assets were equivalent to the total amount of autumn grain in China at that time.
Zhu Yuanzhang was furious and beheaded these officials. At the same time, a decree was issued to take technical precautions in financial management to change the numbers in Chinese characters into hard-to-change capitalized words, which is called the first capitalization of numbers in China history.
Later, Wu Zetian was in charge of state affairs and invented a large number of words and figures. In The Story of the Stone, Gu clearly revealed his inference that "all numbers are the words of the marquis of Wu", so this capitalized number was invented by Wu Zetian.
