What are the procedures for trademark application in Bangladesh?

1. Trademark search: Before starting the trademark registration process, conduct a trademark search through the trademark database. Through trademark search, you can learn whether the same or similar trademark has been applied for in the Trademark Registry;

2. Submit an application: After the trademark search is completed, you can submit an application for trademark registration to the Trademark Registry. ;

3. Formal review: After the application is submitted, the legality of the submitted application documents, trademark drawings, power of attorney and other documents will be reviewed; if the regulations are met, the application date and application number will be awarded;

4. Substantive examination: Examine whether the trademark is registrable in accordance with the law. For trademarks that fail to pass the substantive examination, the examining officer will notify the applicant in writing and inform the applicant of the reasons for rejection. The applicant may submit for reexamination within the time limit from the date of receipt of the rejection notice. Otherwise, the application will be deemed abandoned, and the application date and application number will not be retained;

5. Announcement: After review , after the examining officer believes that the trademark application can be accepted, an announcement will be published in the Bangladesh Official Trademark Gazette, and the trademark opposition period will begin from the date of publication. The objection period is 2 months from the date of announcement;

6. Registration: Trademarks that are ruled to be registered after objections, or trademarks that are announced without objections will be approved for registration and a registration certificate will be issued.
