Although Qinghai Lake is a saltwater lake, it does not produce edible salt. The main salt producing areas in Qinghai Province are Chaka Salt Lake and Keke Salt Lake. Qinghai Salt Industry Co., Ltd. is one of the important units in the Salt Lake Chemical Segment of Western Mining Group Co., Ltd. The company's main production areas, Chaka Salt Lake and Keke Salt Lake, were awarded the country's first standardized production base for green food raw materials (edible salt). The products mainly include three series: industrial salt, edible salt and nutritional and health salt, with more than 50 kinds. The green salt products with the registered trademarks of "Keke" and "Poseidon" are famous brand products in Qinghai Province. The annual comprehensive production capacity of various types of salt is 3 million tons (of which the designated capacity of edible salt is 270,000 tons). The products are mainly sold to 12 provinces and municipalities across the country, and exported to Hong Kong, Japan, Mongolia and other countries and regions. There are 33 salt lakes in the Qaidam Basin in Qinghai. The proven reserves of sodium chloride exceed 300 billion tons, which can be consumed by all mankind for more than 10,000 years.
