One Hundred and Eight Arhats

I have only heard of 18 Arhats. The Eighteen Arhats (also known as the Eighteen Arhats and Eighteen Venerables) are the enlightened disciples of Sakyamuni Buddha. Originally there were sixteen Arhats, but the portrait of Vimalakīrti was later painted in the Song Dynasty, but the Chinese folk added two Arhats, making it Eighteen Arhats. The names of the first sixteen Arhats have long been recorded in Buddhist scriptures, but there are still different versions of the last two Arhats. The theory of the Eighteen Arhats is popular in Han China. 1. Venerable Arhat Angaja. According to the order of eighteen venerables in the "Collection of Three Hundred Buddha Statues" compiled by Zhangjia during the Qianlong period, Venerable Arhat Angaja should be the first. According to legend, he had an extraordinary life experience of being born in fire. When he grew up, he became very wealthy. He donated all his property to people around him and became a bhikkhu. Later, he attained the status of Arahant. Because the Venerable Jedda put his hands together in front of his chest, holding the whisk and the hanging incense burner, an Indian believer knelt down and worshiped in front of him. Beside the Venerable, there were scriptures and the Buddha of Infinite Life on the table carved with roots. The upper realm is non-attachment. 2. Arhat Aiita Arhat Aiita was born into a wealthy family in ancient India. Since he never pursued wealth, his kindness made him a man of extensive wisdom and achievements, and he also won the title of Arhat Aiita. Arhat status, Adiduo means "the invincible person". Venerable Adiduo wore a shawl on his head, made meditation seals with his hands, and sat on the stone in lotus position to meditate. A waiter stands beside him holding a banner, and in front of him a white deer walks slowly with its head raised. The upper realm is the fifth Sakya Patriarch Gongga Nyingpo and his spiritual deity Daqian Destroyed Buddha Mother. 3. Arhat Vanavasin Venerable Arhat Vanavasin sat on the rock with his feet down, looking at the wind bird in front of him with a smile. His right hand has a seal to defeat all kinds of fire hazards and demons. ; Holding the whisk in the left hand, believers can avoid the "three evil karmas" by receiving the cool breeze of the whisk. Among the leaves is Vasubandhu, a disciple of Asanga, who is explaining the Dharma; surrounded by a red halo is White Tara. The Tibetan name of His Holiness means: “People who live in the forest”. 4. Lord Kalika, arhat Kalika, was born into a wealthy family in ancient India. When he was born, his body exuded the sweet aroma of cardamom flowers, hence his name. Later, he converted to Buddhism and obtained the status of Arahant. Venerable Kalika was dressed in green and red Chinese-style monk attire, holding gold armbands in both hands. He sat in lotus position on a pine stone, and his disciples held sweets and listened to his sermons. The upper realm is the Bright Buddha Mother, and Arendeva, the second disciple of Nagarjuna, is sitting among the pines. 5. Arllat Vajriputra Arllat Vajriputra Arllat Vajriputra Arllat Vajriputra, whose father was a king in ancient India, and whose mother’s name was Dojim (Vajra Girl), Vajriputra, the free translation in Tibetan is “son of Vajriputra” ". Under the guidance of the saint, he gave up his right to inherit the throne and became a monk, and later attained the status of Arhat. The Venerable Vajra Buddha holds a whisk in his left hand, and holds the seal seal in his right hand. A beam of light shoots out from the tip of his index finger, illuminating an auspicious cloud. In the cloud, he is seated as the Mother of God, and the fifth Patriarch of the Five Sakya Patriarchs, Pasuba, is in lotus position. Sitting among the pine branches 6. Arhat Kanakavatsa Arhat Kanakavatsa, which means "golden elephant boy", was born in a wealthy family in ancient India. At that time, a female elephant also gave birth to an elephant. The elephant boy who was able to carry gold got this name. He later became a monk by riding a gold elephant and achieved the status of Ahan. The Venerable Kanojiavacha held the cassock back rope and sat half-lotus on the rock. Together with the attendant holding the dharma bowl tied with the cassock, he looked down at the Dragon King who came to offer the treasure. In the upper realm, there is the bark of the tree in the form of the Mother of Wisdom and Practice, and the light of Sakyamuni, one of the six ornaments. 7. Arhat Bhadra Raosang, the father of Arhat Bhadra, was once the chariot driver of King Suddhodana, the father of Sakyamuni. Bhadra was a knowledgeable scholar who later became a monk. He systematically studied Buddhism and obtained the status of Arahant. Venerable Bhadra holds a sutra in his right hand and forms a seal with his left hand. He is sitting half-lotus on a huge rock. A lion dancer stands on the side, and a crane flutters its wings in front of it. Fresh peaches and an alms bowl tied with burdens are placed on the rock. In the upper realm, Guanyin Bodhisattva sits in a halo and auspicious clouds. The Indian Patriarch arrives on floating clouds. There is a pagoda built on the mountainside. 8. Arhat kanankabharadhvaja Arhat kanankabharadhvaja was born in a wealthy family in ancient India. It is said that he held a gold coin in his hand when he was born, and every time he took one away, he was reborn. One piece is so wonderful that it is named "Jiujin". When he grew up, he often gave away his wealth to everyone. Later he became a monk and was accepted as a disciple by Sakyamuni, and he attained the status of Arhat. The Venerable Kano Kabali Chaoja made a meditation mudra with his hands and sat on the rock in lotus position. Master Dharmakirti was sitting in a tree. A bird with a ribbon landed beside him. Above the auspicious clouds was the mother of the Buddha.

9. Arhat Bakula Venerable Arhat Bakula was born seventy years before Sakyamuni. After becoming a monk as an ascetic monk, he only used tree bark to make his clothes. He devoted himself to studying Buddhism and finally achieved the status of Arhat. "Bagula" is the name of a tree. The weasel that Venerable Bagula holds and spits out various market pearls means that all believers who touch or see the weasel in the Venerable's hands will obtain the happiness of the "five desires". There is an offering table beside him, with scriptures, candles, alms bowls and incense burners placed there. Behind you, the heart of the temple and the pagoda are looming in the mountains, and waterfalls are falling layer by layer. The auspicious clouds held up Maitreya Buddha, and Nagarjuna appeared among the trees. 10. Arhart Rahula Arhart Rahula, the son of Sakyamuni among the sixteen Arhats, obtained the fruit of Arhat because he studied the Hinayana and Mahayana teachings extensively. Position, "Rahu" means a demon that can cause eclipses of the sun and moon. The Venerable Luohu Luo was sitting in a chair with his feet hanging down, with lotus flowers at his feet and a golden crown in his hand. It was a gift he received when he went to beg for alms on the thirty-third day, and it has the power to remove inner desires. The waiter holds scriptures and a wish-fulfilling bowl. The upper realm is Master Padmasambhava and Randen Buddha 11. Arhat Chudapanthaka Arhat Chudapanthaka Arhat Chudapanthaka is dull by nature and is often laughed at because he cannot memorize sutras, but he practices it unswervingly. The Dharma will eventually lead to Arahantship. Sakyamuni described him as the most outstanding monk who changed other people's ideas. The Venerable Zhutu Bantuojia made meditation seals with his hands, and sat on the mountain stone in lotus position with a focused expression. In front of the seat is a waiter holding a lion cub and playing with the lion. The Bodhisattva Avatar and Master Atisha appear among the trees. 12. Arhat Pindola Bharadhvaja Arhat Pindola Bharadhvaja Arhat Pindola Bharadhvaja sits comfortably under a pine tree, begging for alms in his left hand, and holding a pen in his right hand to flip through scriptures on the stone table. Green smoke from the incense burner curls up next to the book. The waiter stands holding a feather fan. The auspicious clouds entrust Manjushri Bodhisattva, and among the pine branches is Lama Damba Sonam Gyaltsen. 13. Arhat Panthaka Arhat Panthaka Arhat Panthaka holds a scripture in his hands and sits on a rock in lotus position. Xiangyun asked the Venerable in Indian monk attire and his family to go to the thirty-three days above to spread Buddhism. There was a gift from the gods to the Venerable - a beautiful rock palace called "Pistil". In the upper realm, there are the Great Peacock Buddha Mother and Sonam Zimo, the second ancestor of the five Sakya ancestors. 14. Arhat Nagasena Arhat Nagasena was originally a prince of Sema in North India. When he grew up, he gave up his right to inherit the throne and became a monk. He was awarded the status of Arhat. Sakyamuni praised him as one of the disciples who cut off all ties with the world. One of the best. Venerable Nagasi holds a Zen staff in his left hand and a vase with flowers in his right hand, sitting half-lotus under the tree. Two little monkeys picked fresh peaches and presented them to His Holiness, creating a lively atmosphere. Green Tara appears on the treetops, and among the rocks there is Drakpa Gyaltsen, the third ancestor of the five Sakya ancestors, sitting on a lotus throne. 15. Venerable Arhat Gopaka Venerable Arhat Gopaka was born in Loma Turban in ancient India. He was named because he had scars all over his body after birth and was often wrapped in cloth, which means "hermit". When he grew up, he listened to Sakyamuni's teachings and became respectful. He became a monk and later attained the status of Arhat. Venerable Jie Bojia held the scriptures in front of his chest with both hands, and sat half-lotus on the stone. The attendant stood behind him holding a Zen staff, and a tiger lay at his feet. Among the trees is Sakya Pandita, the fourth ancestor of the five Sakya ancestors, and his spiritual deity in the upper realm. 16. Arhat Abheda Arhat Abheda was born into a wealthy Brahmin family in Rajagaha, India. He was born very beautiful, hence his name, which means "incomparable". Sakyamuni praised him as one of his disciples. The most compassionate. Venerable Amit holds the Bodhi Pagoda in both hands. It is said that when the Venerable went to the Rakshasa residence in the north of Mount Sumeru, it was given to him by Sakyamuni to help him eliminate the magic power of Rakshasa. There are sutras, incense burners, treasure bottles and other offerings on the mountain stone table. In front of the altar there are Tibetan auspicious animals playing and chasing each other, and behind them the rushing river water falls from the horizon. In the upper realm, Vajrapani Bodhisattva appears in the mountains, and the Mahayana Dharma King resides among the branches of ancient pine trees. 17. Dharmatala Dharmatala Dharmatala holds a Zen staff in his right hand and a whisk in his left hand. He carries a sutra bag on his back and a canopy on his head. As he runs, he is surrounded by tigers. In the front, you can see the Infinite Light Buddha sitting in the pagoda, and there are pink auspicious clouds in front of the pagoda, extending down to the world. This painting method comes from the Ming Dynasty Arhat paintings in Han Dynasty. In the upper realm there is the radiant White Tara manifested. 18. The upper realm of Budai Monk Havashang is Phagpa, one of the five Sakya ancestors.
