Abstract: The automobile three-way catalytic converter is very important. It can purify more than 90% harmful substances in waste gas, thus ensuring environmental safety. So where is the automobile three-way catalytic converter installed? The three-way catalyst is used to purify the exhaust gas in the exhaust pipe, so the three-way catalyst of the automobile is usually installed on the exhaust pipe and fixed at the outlet of the exhaust manifold. How to install three-way catalytic converter? Let's have a look.

1. Where is the automobile three-way catalytic converter installed?

Automobile three-way catalytic converter is generally installed at the head of the exhaust manifold of automobile chassis, which is a device similar to the shape of a long kettle. The automobile exhaust pipe consists of three sections, namely, the head section, the middle section and the tail section. The front section is directly connected with the engine, the middle section is fixed on the chassis, and the rear section is close to the rear bumper. The three-way catalyst is installed behind the exhaust manifold, and the exhaust gas from the engine will pass through the three-way catalyst after coming out of the cylinder.

Automobile three-way catalytic converter is an important external purification device installed in automobile exhaust system, which converts harmful gases such as CO, HC and NOX emitted by automobile exhaust into harmless carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen through oxidation and reduction. The working principle of the three-way catalytic converter is that when the high-temperature automobile exhaust gas passes through the purification device, the purifying agent in the three-way catalytic converter will enhance the activity of three gases, namely CO, HC and NOX, so that they will have certain redox chemical reactions, and the three harmful gases will become harmless gases, thus purifying the automobile exhaust gas.

Second, how to install the three-way catalytic converter

1 and disassembly and assembly of three-way catalytic converter (whole);

(1) jack the car safely.

(2) After the three-way catalytic converter is cooled, unscrew the four bolts and nuts connecting the exhaust pipe and the three-way catalytic converter.

(3) Remove the three-way catalytic converter and gasket.

(4) Place two new gaskets on the front exhaust pipe and the rear exhaust pipe.

(5) Install the three-way catalytic converter and tighten the bolts and nuts with a tightening torque of 43N.m

2. Disassembly of preheating three-way catalytic converter (monolithic):

(1) Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Note that disassembly and assembly must be carried out 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the K position and the negative battery cable is removed.

(2) Remove the front exhaust pipe.

① Loosen 2 bolts and remove the bracket.

② Remove the two fastening bolts and two fastening nuts of the front and middle exhaust pipes.

③ Remove the three fastening nuts of the front exhaust pipe and the preheating three-way catalytic converter with a 14mm socket wrench.

④ Remove the front exhaust pipe and gasket.

(3) Remove the preheated three-way catalytic converter:

① Check whether the preheated three-way catalytic converter is cooled.

② Disconnect the auxiliary oxygen sensor connector.

③ Remove the bolts, nuts and 1 exhaust manifold bracket.

④ Remove the bolts, nuts and exhaust manifold bracket.

⑤ Remove 3 bolts, 2 nuts, preheated three-way catalytic converter, gasket, retainer and gasket.

⑥ Remove five bolts and two heat shields from the preheated three-way catalytic converter.

(4) Reinstall the preheated three-way catalytic converter:

① Install two heat shields on the new preheated three-way catalytic converter with eight bolts.

② Install new gaskets, fixers and sealing gaskets on the preheated three-way catalytic converter.

③ Install the preheated three-way catalytic converter with three bolts and two new nuts, and the tightening torque is 29N m. ..

④ Install the exhaust manifold bracket with bolts and nuts, and the tightening torque is 42N.m

⑤ Install 1 exhaust manifold bracket with bolts and nuts, and the tightening torque is 42N.m

⑥ Connect the auxiliary oxygen sensor connector.

(5) Reinstall the front exhaust pipe.

① Replace the left and right ends of the front exhaust pipe with two new gaskets.

② Temporarily install two fastening bolts and two new fastening nuts for the front and middle exhaust pipes.

③ Use a socket wrench with the length of 14m to tighten the 1 new fastening nuts of the front exhaust pipe and the preheating three-way catalytic converter, and the tightening torque is 62N.m

④ Tighten the two fastening bolts and two fastening nuts of the front exhaust pipe and the middle exhaust pipe with a tightening torque of 56N.m

⑤ Install the bracket with 2 bolts.

(6) Connect the negative battery cable.
