Longtan Hydropower Project is located in Tian’e County, Guangxi, on the upper reaches of Hongshui River, 15 kilometers away from Tian’e County. The watershed area above the dam site is 98,500 square kilometers, accounting for 71% of the Hongshui River watershed area. Its installed capacity accounts for 35-40% of the Hongshui River's developable capacity. It is the largest under-construction project in China after the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Hydropower Engineering. The Longtan Hydropower Project has a planned total installed capacity of 6.3 million kilowatts, with nine 700,000-kilowatt hydroelectric generator units installed, with an average annual power generation of 18.7 billion kilowatt-hours. The Longtan Hydropower Project mainly consists of three major parts: dam, underground power plant and navigation building. In March 1999, the State Power Company and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government jointly negotiated and decided to jointly invest in the construction of the Longtan Hydropower Project. The State Electric Power Company (accounting for 33%), Guangxi Electric Power Co., Ltd. (accounting for 32%), Guangxi Investment (Group) Co., Ltd. In 2002, after the reform of the national power system, the equity of the former State Power Company was transferred to China Datang Corporation. After the change, China Datang Corporation owns 65% of the equity of Longtan Hydropower Development Co., Ltd.
