Black cherries, also known as "black pearls", have a long history of planting in Banan District, Chongqing and are one of the best varieties of cherries in China.
Black cherry fruit is medium-large, O-shaped, with thick skin and good storage and transportation performance. The peel is bright red when first ripe, and when fully mature, the peel is purplish red and shiny, hence the name black cherry. Some people also call it black pearl cherry. The flesh is light yellow, tender, refreshing and sweet. It has a fragrant aroma and is of extremely high quality. It is currently one of the best quality varieties of cherries in China. It matures in mid-to-late April in Chongqing.
