Audi changed its name, and Mercedes-Benz canceled EQ series. Because of the appearance of trams, traditional luxury car companies seem to be very keen on changing their names.
Recently, BMW, which is also a first-line luxury brand, seems to have this plan. According to foreign media reports, BMW has submitted the trademark registration information of all models to the German Trademark Patent Office. Although this move does not fully prove that BMW will change its name at present, it is at least very likely.
Previously, BMW generally used numbers to represent its vehicle series, and added three English suffixes, namely, D (diesel version), I (gasoline version) and E (plug-in hybrid version) according to different types of powertrains.
With the overall increase of electric vehicles, the existing naming methods of BMW are somewhat confusing. Most of the electric vehicles are prefixed with the letter "I", such as i4, iX, iX1 and i7, and at the same time, there are specific English numeral combinations behind them to indicate the vehicle configuration, including: IxDrive 4, i4 M5, i3 xDrive4, etc.
Obviously, such a complicated combination is hard to remember for a while, and it is not difficult to understand why BMW has to submit a new named trademark in the near future.
according to the documents submitted, BMW has made name adjustment for most of its models, especially the pure electric models. Among them, X74, X75, X76 and iX74, iX75 and iX76 are registered for BMW X7 and iX7 (pure electric version) which will be unveiled in the future. The fuel version X74 refers to X7 +4 power configuration, and iX76 similarly refers to IX7.
BMW X3 and iX3 have registered X32, X33, iX33, iX34 and iX35 respectively, in which the fuel version X32 refers to the X3 model +2 power configuration; Similarly, iX35 refers to the iX3 model +5 power configuration.
The new naming method also includes its best-selling 3 series, and the names include i32, i33 and i34, which means that i3 will provide various pure electric assemblies in the future. At the same time, BMW also applied for the M35 trademark, in which there is no "I" prefix, which seems to indicate that M35 may be a fuel vehicle and may replace the current M34i.
The naming registration information of other BMW models is as follows:
BMW 1 Series and i1 are registered: i118, i12, i13, i14;;
BMW X1 and iX1 are registered: X13, iX12, IX 13;
BMW X2 and iX2 are registered: iX22, iX23, iX24;;
BMW series 4 and i4 are registered: i42, i43, i45;;
BMW X4 and iX4 are registered: X42, iX43, iX44, iX45;;
BMW 5 series and i5 are registered: i53 and i55;;
BMW X5 and iX5 are registered: X54, X55, X56, iX54, iX55, iX56;;
BMW X6 and iX6 are registered: X64, X65, iX64, iX65, iX66;;
BMW 7 Series and i7 are registered: i74, i75 and i76;;
in addition, for four-wheel drive models, the new naming will still add the suffix xDrive, such as: i53xrive, i76xrive, etc.
