What is a motherboard?

The motherboard, also called the mainboard, systemboard, or motherboard, is the most basic and important component of the computer.

The motherboard is generally a rectangular circuit board, on which are installed the main circuit systems that make up the computer. Generally, there are BIOS chips, I/O control chips, keyboard and panel control switch interfaces, indicator light connectors, and expansion plugs. Slots, motherboards and plug-in cards’ DC power supply connectors and other components.

Working Principle

Under the circuit board, there are well-organized circuit wiring; above, there are various components with clear division of labor: slots, chips, resistors, capacitors, etc.

When the host is powered on, current will instantly pass through the CPU, north and south bridge chips, memory slots, AGP slots, PCI slots, IDE interfaces, and the serial ports, parallel ports, and PS/2 interfaces on the edge of the motherboard wait. Subsequently, the motherboard will identify the hardware based on the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and enter the operating system to perform functions that support the system platform.
