What kind of paper are there in the world?

Types of paper

There are many types of paper. The Ministry of Light Industry of my country divides various types of paper into 17 categories according to their different uses (11 categories of paper and 6 categories of cardboard)

The 11 categories of paper are: printing paper, writing paper, drawing and drawing paper, electrical insulation paper, cigarette paper, absorbent paper, instrument paper, photosensitive paper, transfer paper (base paper), industrial technical paper, packaging paper .

The six categories of cardboard are: binding cardboard, box-making cardboard, insulating cardboard, industrial technology cardboard, construction cardboard, and shoe-making cardboard.

Printing paper:

In printing paper, there are papers with different properties and characteristics, such as newsprint, letterpress printing paper, offset printing paper, offset printing coating Paper, dictionary paper, map paper, chart paper, gravure printing paper, weekly newspaper, illustrated newspaper, whiteboard paper, writing paper, etc.

Newsprint

It is mainly used for printing newspapers and letterpress books and periodicals. Its paper is soft, has good elastic plasticity, has strong ink absorption performance, and the ink can be fixed to the paper surface quickly. On the paper, the paper surface has been pressed successively by a calender. Both sides are smooth and not easy to fluff. The printing on both sides is relatively clear and solid. It has a certain mechanical strength and can be suitable for high-speed web printing. The opacity is very good. Because the raw materials used are mainly mechanical wood pulp, which contains essential elements and impurities, the paper is not suitable for long-term storage. The paper is prone to yellowing and becoming brittle. The paper is highly absorbent and has poor water resistance, and the paper is easily damaged.

Toppan printing paper

Mainly used for letterpress printing machines to print anthologies, classics, general books, textbooks, magazines, etc. Its characteristics are similar to newsprint, and its quality is worse than newsprint. The paper's smoothness, water resistance, and whiteness are worse than newsprint. Its ink absorption capacity is not as good as newsprint, but it absorbs ink evenly.

Offset printing paper

Mainly used for offset printing of color pictorials, albums, posters, color trademarks and some high-end publications.

Offset paper can be divided into single-sided offset paper and double-sided offset paper. Single-sided offset paper is often used in color posters, cigarette boxes, trademarks, etc. Double-sided offset paper is used for printing pictures, illustrations, maps, etc.

Offset paper should have small stretchability and strong water resistance to prevent paper deformation and inaccurate overprinting during multi-color overprinting. It should also have no lint, no dusting, and a tight texture to prevent repeated printing. Under the action of the adhesion pulling force of the ink, it will cause the phenomena of fuzzing and powder removal, causing white spots on the imprint, which affects the quality of the printed product; the ink absorbency should not be too high, as it can hinder the penetration of the connecting material in the ink and make the ink stick to the paper. Dry to form a film layer to ensure the gloss of the printed product; the surface is smooth to ensure that the imprint is solid, and the paper should be free of sand and other debris to prevent damage to the blanket and printing plate.

Offset printing coated paper

Also known as coated paper. It is made by applying a layer of inorganic coating on the surface of the coating base paper and then super-calendering. The paper surface is smooth and the whiteness is high. It is specially used for offset printing of single-color or multi-color art pictures, illustrations, and pictorials. , albums, product trademarks, product samples, calendars, etc.

Coated paper has a high smoothness, and can obtain extremely fine smooth dots when printing, and can better reproduce the layers and texture of the original. The paper surface should not be powdered or delaminated. Generally speaking, ink absorption should not be too fast. Absorbing ink too fast will cause the imprint to be dull, and in severe cases, it will cause the imprint to become powdery.

Dictionary paper

Mainly used for letterpress printing dictionaries, pocket manuals, reference books, scientific and technological materials, high-end printed matter, etc., with light weight, available in four types of 25-40 g/m2.

Dictionary paper is light and thin, and requires good opacity (to prevent printing), uniform fiber structure, smooth paper surface, and consistent thickness. Dictionary paper is relatively soft and the edges of the paper are easy to curl.

Map paper, nautical map paper

Map paper is suitable for offset printing of multi-color topographic maps, maps and atlases. It is divided into special number and No. 1. The special number is used for printing. Topographic Maps, No. 1 for printed maps and atlases. Nautical chart paper is suitable for offset printing of multi-color nautical charts.

Map paper and nautical chart paper are white in color, with low dustiness, especially no black dust larger than 1 mm in length (to avoid confusion with map symbols), smooth on both sides, tight and tough tissue, low stretchability, and rich It is elastic and can print precise graphics. Its folding resistance is much higher than that of offset paper. The breaking length of sea chart paper is also very demanding.

Gravure printing paper

Mainly used for monochrome and color gravure printing of pictorials, art pictures, illustrations, etc.

Gravure paper requires the paper to be white and firm, with good smoothness and water resistance. There should be no obvious powder loss, fluffing or print-through during printing.

The original gravure printing paper includes paper for printing banknotes, stamps and other high-quality and difficult-to-counterfeit printed products. Now it is separated into banknote paper, stamp paper, etc.

White board paper

It is used for printing various product packaging cartons and product decoration lining paper, and can also print various educational pictures.

The fiber structure of white board paper is relatively uniform. The surface layer has filler and rubber components. The surface is coated with a layer of paint and calendered by multiple rollers. Therefore, the paper board has a tight texture and the paper surface is generally white and smooth. It has relatively uniform ink absorption, less dusting and lint loss on the surface, and the paper has good folding resistance.

Synthetic paper

Mainly used for printing high-end art, maps, dictionaries and other reference books.

Synthetic paper is paper synthesized using chemical raw materials. Generally, hydrocarbons are used as the main raw materials, and some additives are added. It has soft texture, strong tensile strength, good water resistance, light resistance and heat and cold resistance. , no mold, good stability and other characteristics, and resistant to chemical corrosion. In the temperature range of -60~60℃, it can be used as various printing papers.

Synthetic paper is not only suitable for printing, but also an ideal packaging material because it is non-toxic, pollution-free and breathable. It is clean and dust-free and does not shed paper dust. It is an ideal paper for the information industry. It is now replacing ordinary paper as office paper and computer paper in ultra-clean rooms.
