Rongshui fragrant duck, commonly known as native duck or glutinous rice fragrant duck, is a local poultry breed formed by the rural people in Rongshui County who have been closed for a long time to breed and raise themselves. It is resistant to coarse food, small in size, and has green-shell eggs. Over 50 years old, there is less subcutaneous fat, plump muscles, high lean meat rate, tender and delicious meat, no fishy smell, and a special meaty aroma, hence the name "Fragrant Duck". The origin of this variety is Rongshui Miao Autonomous County. The central production areas are located in Sanfang, Wangdong, Huaibao, Sirong, Gandong; Gunbei, Tonglian, Antai, Dongtou, Liangzhai, Dalang, Xiang Fen, Angui, etc. are also distributed.

The down color of ducklings is light yellow. The adult male duck's head feathers and mirror feathers have an emerald green metallic sheen; there is a very obvious white feather ring on the upper neck; the feathers from the white feather ring to the front edge of the chest and back are brownish red, and the shoulder feathers are dark gray and white; the aileron feathers are purple and blue. The color mirror feathers, the saddle feathers are purple-black; the belly feathers transition from gray to white; the tail feathers alternate between purple-black and white feathers, with 2-4 purple-black male feathers curling upward like hooks.

The feathers on the ventral side of the head of an adult female duck are white or light gray, with obvious boundaries with the body feathers; the mane feathers are brown; the aileron feathers have emerald green or purple-blue metallic light. There are three types of feather colors in the remaining parts: light twist color 97%, black and white pattern 2%, and light gray 1%.

The flesh color is dark red; the beak is orange and brown, and the beak is black; the shanks are orange and brown; and the skin is yellow.

Rongshui Xiangya is smaller in size, with a well-proportioned and short body, and long and thick wings.

This breed is self-propagating and self-supporting under local conditions. It has wide adaptability to natural conditions, strong disease resistance, strong tolerance to rough feeding, docile temperament, and is suitable for large group feeding, mainly grazing. Rivers, reservoirs, streams, and rice fields can be used for grazing. Locally produced crops and their by-products are mainly used for feeding, especially local fragrant glutinous rice, to maintain the original meat flavor of this variety.
