The Guangchang White Lotus grown in other areas is obviously not as good as the place of origin in Guangchang in terms of growth period, number of flowers, yield, protein content, "Lianmi" and "Oxidanthinine" content, and its flavor is even worse than that of the place of origin. Therefore, compared with other seed lotus varieties, Guangchang White Lotus does have its own unique features, and it is a variety with very local characteristics. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the white lotus production area in Guangchang County was only 3,627 acres, mainly distributed in towns such as Yiqian, Chishui, Toubi, and Shuinan. In the 1970s, the county carried out new white lotus variety breeding and autumn sowing breeding experiments of white lotus seeds, and selected and promoted the new white lotus variety "Guanglian No. 1", which promoted the development of Guangchang white lotus. In 1984, Guangchang established the country's first White Lotus Scientific Research Institute to conduct comprehensive and systematic research on new varieties of White Lotus, cultivation techniques, pest control and comprehensive utilization, and successfully cultivated "Ganlian 85-4", "Ganlian 85-4" and "Ganlian". New varieties such as "Lian 85-5" and "Ganlian 62" are widely promoted in 16 towns and villages in the county. In the 1980s, Guangchang White Lotus experienced great development. The planting area increased from about 10,000 acres in the initial stage to about 80,000 acres, with an output value of more than 120 million yuan, becoming a pillar industry of Guangchang County economy. In the 1990s, the Guangchang White Lotus Research Institute cooperated with the Institute of Genetics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to carry out research on space mutation breeding of White Lotus and successfully cultivated a series of "Space Lotus" varieties. The "Space Lotus" series varieties have the characteristics of long growth period, many flowers, large fluff, large grains, high seed setting rate, high yield and good quality. They are currently the best new varieties of seed lotus. At the same time, it has the quality characteristics of high protein, low fat, and rich amino acid content. Its crude protein is 2-3 percentage points higher than conventional varieties. Guangchang vigorously promotes this new variety and has established a 10,000-acre white lotus pollution-free production demonstration base, more than 200 white lotus production professional villages, and 11 white lotus green food standardized production demonstration bases, forming a Bailian belt. Currently, the white lotus planting area reaches 13 million acres, of which the space lotus planting rate is over 98%, with a total annual output of 10 million kilograms, making it the largest white lotus producing area in the country. In white lotus producing areas across the country, Guangchang space lotus has been introduced to 80% of the more than 1 million acres of white lotus.
In order to enhance the competitiveness of the Bailian brand, the county registered the general trademark "Guangchang Bailian" in 2001, and applied for geographical indication product protection of "Guangchang Bailian" in 2004. In May 2008, Guangchang Bailian won the honorary title of Class A green food and "China Famous Brand Agricultural Products". In 2006, the green food Bailian standardized production base established by Guangchang was evaluated by the national green food raw material standardized production base acceptance team at the end of the year and passed the acceptance with a high score of 97. Guangchang Bailian quality standard became the national Bailian product standard and was officially promulgated in Implemented nationwide. A series of brand building has provided Guangchang Bailian with strong competitiveness.
