Renault S.A.

It is a French vehicle manufacturer that produces racing cars, small cars, medium-sized cars, SUVs, large vehicles (including trucks, engineering vehicles and buses), etc. Renault first entered the U.S. market in the 1950s and 1960s.

Renault cars are relatively rare in Asia, especially in China. Renault's only joint venture in China is Sanjiang Renault, which specializes in producing the Trafic 7-seat single-box car.

In order to enter the Asian market, Renault identified Nissan Motor Company, which was in debt distress, as a partner. On March 27, 1999, Renault and Nissan signed an agreement. Renault acquired Nissan with an investment of US$5.4 billion. Renault holds 36.8% of the company's shares and 22.5% of Nissan Diesel Vehicle Company, and is guaranteed to hold 44.4% of Nissan's shares in five years.
