History of Hongqi:
my country's first domestically produced car was not Hongqi, but a "Dongfeng" brand car manufactured by FAW. The license plate is CA71, the engine of the car is imitated from the Mercedes-Benz 190, and the chassis and body are imitated from the "Simca Vedette". The history of the Hongqi brand began in 1958. At that time, the central government was eager to use domestically produced high-end cars at the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and assigned FAW the task of manufacturing domestically produced high-end cars.
FAW borrowed a 1955 Chrysler limousine from Jilin University, dismantled it, manually measured and mapped each part, and then copied it. The appearance was combined with China's national characteristics and made by hand. A limousine was launched, and the power and equipment of this car were almost the same as those of Chrysler.
Wu De, then secretary of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee, officially named the car "Hongqi" at a factory-wide rally of tens of thousands of people. In the next nine months, FAW designers conducted five systematic experiments on the Hongqi sedan. After the tests, the prototype of the Hongqi sedan was officially numbered CA72.
The earliest CA72 was marked with five small red flags side by side on the fender, representing workers, farmers, businessmen, students and soldiers. The front grille of CA72 adopts a fan-shaped design, and the rear uses palace lantern-type taillights. The sunflower shape in the center of the steering wheel and the tail logo are made of pure gold. Cloisonné, Fujian paint, Hangzhou brocade, etc. are used in the car. The overall body shape is solemn and elegant.
On October 1, 1959, 10 brand-new CA72 Hongqi cars were unveiled at the National Day ceremony. The Hongqi review cars were solemn, elegant and majestic, showing the majestic momentum of the review. In 1960, the Hongqi sedan was included in the World Automobile Yearbook, and the five red flags were changed to three, representing the General Line, the Great Leap Forward and the People's Communes.
Since the 1960s, Hongqi's various technologies have been improving day by day, and it has been designated as a special car for deputy ministers and above and a courtesy car for foreign affairs. Since then, Hongqi CA770, CA771, CA772, CA773 limousine and other models have been launched one after another.
In 1981, Hongqi, which had been produced for 23 years, was discontinued due to the so-called high fuel consumption, high cost and low output. Up to that time, the country had produced a total of 1,540 Hongqi cars in more than 20 years. Until the reform and opening up gave Hongqi a second life.
In the 1990s, FAW cooperated with foreign companies to develop various models such as the new "Little Hongqi" and the luxurious "Dahongqi" with all intellectual property rights. FAW used the Audi 100 as a prototype to create the Hongqi 98 (later called the "Hongqi Mingshi") that has the same appearance as the Audi 100. Later, Dahongqi CA7460, Century Star, HQ300 and other models were developed one after another.
