"Nanshan Pizza Hut", an Internet buzzword, is the joking name of the Chinese Internet company Tencent, especially the company's legal department. The company has repeatedly sued and won in the Shenzhen Nanshan District People's Court, so netizens named its legal department "Nanshan Pizza Hut."
Tencent is headquartered in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, and most lawsuits are handled by the Nanshan District Court of Shenzhen. At the same time, Tencent’s litigation team is recognized as a powerful team in the Internet industry. It has achieved an impressive record of undefeated litigation in 29 times since 2013. Since then, Tencent has become more and more courageous in its fight. Some people estimate that Tencent's legal department received more than 30 million yuan in compensation in 2015 just by defending the rights of the game "League of Legends".
Development history
Former Tencent employee Xu Zhenhua established the game company Shanghai Mutong Technology Co., Ltd. The company launched a mobile game called "Endless Showdown" that has achieved far better results overseas. Leading the overseas version of "Honor of Kings". In 2017, Riot Games, a company under Tencent and developer of "League of Legends", sued Shanghai Mutong Technology Co., Ltd. in California for infringement, but the U.S. court dismissed the lawsuit on the grounds of conflict of jurisdiction.
In June of the same year, Tencent filed a new lawsuit against Xu Zhenhua for violating the confidentiality agreement and non-compete agreement. According to media reports, the second instance of the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court ruled that Xu Zhenhua violated the non-compete clause in the labor contract and needed to compensate Tencent more than 19.4 million yuan, setting a record for the highest compensation in similar cases.
However, since the 19.4 million yuan compensation lawsuit has nothing to do with the infringement of "Endless Showdown", Tencent chose to continue the lawsuit in Shenzhen Court, and before the trial, it added that it also infringed the intellectual property rights of Tencent's "League of Legends" accusations. Shanghai Mutong Technology Co., Ltd. filed a lawsuit to object to jurisdiction over this matter, but it was rejected by the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court and the Guangdong Provincial Higher People's Court. The case began trial in Shenzhen in September 2018.
