Petroleum
Petroleum refers to a mixture of gaseous, liquid and solid hydrocarbons. It is a viscous, dark brown liquid with natural occurrence and is called "industrial of blood”.
Petroleum is divided into forms such as crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids and natural tar, but it is customary to still use "petroleum" as the definition of "crude oil". There are oil reserves in some areas of the upper crust. The main components are mixtures of various alkanes, naphthenes, and aromatic hydrocarbons. It is one of the main objects of geological exploration.
The oil-forming mechanism of petroleum has two theories: biological sedimentation and petrochemical oil. The former is more widely accepted. It is believed that oil was formed by organisms in ancient oceans or lakes after a long evolution and belongs to biological sedimentation. Oil is non-renewable; the latter believes that oil is generated from the carbon in the earth's crust itself, has nothing to do with living things, and is renewable.
Petroleum is mainly used as fuel and gasoline, and is also a raw material for many chemical industry products, such as solutions, fertilizers, pesticides and plastics. Ancient Egypt and Babylonians had exploited oil a long time ago. The Chinese name "petroleum" was first named by Shen Kuo, a great scientist in the Northern Song Dynasty.
