The Disney Platinum Collection is a DVD limited release plan developed by the Buena Vista Home Entertainment Department of the Disney Company. It was confirmed at the end of 1999 and launched in 2001.
The special thing about this plan is that it breaks the previous out-of-print situation of Disney DVD releases. With this plan, Disney hopes that other DVDs will not be out of print, and only the 10 most classic works selected at that time will enter the Platinum Collection. It is planned and released for a limited time, after which it will be out of print. The plan initially included 10 Disney animations, one for each year, in order:
"Snow White" | Originally scheduled for 2001
"Beauty and the Beast" | Originally scheduled for 2002
"The Lion King" | Originally scheduled for 2003
"Aladdin" | Originally scheduled for 2004
"Bambi" | Originally scheduled for 2005
p>"The Jungle Book" | Originally scheduled for 2006
"Cinderella" | Originally scheduled for 2007
"The Little Mermaid" | Originally scheduled for 2008
p>"Lady and the Tramp" | Originally scheduled for 2009
"101 Dogs" | Originally scheduled for 2010
The characteristic of the Platinum Collection series is that the films are very classic , the picture quality and sound of the film have been restored to a very high level, and they are basically two-disc DVDs with rich content, including a large number of behind-the-scenes content, and adopt a limited-time out-of-print policy.
Regarding the out-of-print policy of limited release, the United States and Taiwan will dispose of unreleased works by recycling, giving away, selling at low prices, etc., and truly achieve out-of-print; but in mainland China, due to authorization Due to commercial interests and other issues, limited release and out-of-print have not really been implemented, so even now, you can still buy the Platinum Edition DVD of The Lion King.
Platinum Edition DVDs released in the United States will have the words PLATINUM EDITION (Platinum Edition) on the cover. However, in other countries, Disney has not registered the trademark Platinum Edition, so Platinum Edition is basically not mentioned, only "Special Edition". Edition/Special Edition", so Platinum Edition is just the name of a plan.
