Why are there three hometowns of Chinese peppers in Hebei Province? Where are they?

Our current diet has become more and more diverse. Many friends like almost anything spicy, because boiled fish, spicy crayfish and many spicy dishes are really mouth-watering, so many friends who can't eat spicy food at the beginning have also joined the ranks of eating spicy food. When it comes to spicy dishes, chili peppers, and spicy girls, the first thing we think of is Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and other places, where many people cannot live without chili peppers for three meals a day. Of course, it is natural that places such as Suiyang and Qiubei are known as the pepper capitals of China. However, in Hebei, my country, there are three places known as the hometown of chili peppers. Where are they? Let’s popularize it today: Wangdu County, Jize County and Jizhou District are all in Hebei.

Let’s take a look at Wangdu County first. It belongs to Baoding City, Hebei Province, but its geographical location is in the center of the Beijing-Tianjin-Stone Triangle. The pepper in Wangdu County, named after Wangdu pepper, is a specialty of Hebei and is also considered a national geographical landmark product. The peppers here are pure and fresh in color, rich in spices and spicy substances, and also contain many vitamins, proteins, and some trace elements. Therefore, in 1999, the Ministry of Agriculture rated Wangdu County as the hometown of pepper. Today, the area planted with peppers in Wangdu County has reached more than 50,000 acres, and there are more than 100 pepper processing plants of various types. Wangdu County is not only famous for its peppers, but also for its chili sauce.

Jize County is a county below Handan, Hebei Province. As early as the Sui Dynasty, Jize County has a history of growing peppers. The peppers in Jize County are also known as lamb's horn peppers. Because they are purple in color and have a smooth, slender appearance, and have a hook at the end, they are similar to the shape of a lamb's horn, so they are called lamb's horn peppers. The peppers in Jize County are not very spicy, have a strong flavor, can be eaten in a variety of ways, and are easy to process and store, so they are very popular among everyone. Chili peppers in Jize County are one of the county's important industries, and they also produce many provincial-level trademarks, such as Vipin Red and so on. It is precisely because of the cultivation of peppers that Jize County not only has the title of the hometown of peppers, but also led the entire county out of the ranks of poor counties in 2018.

In addition to these two counties in Hebei, there is another area known as the hometown of chili peppers, and that is Jizhou District in Hengshui. Since Jizhou District introduced the new pepper variety Tianying pepper in 1986, the pepper planting industry has embarked on a path of vigorous development, with the pepper planting area reaching 150,000 acres. Its chili products are not only popular among domestic people, but also exported to Southeast Asia, Japan and other countries. Therefore, in 1997, it was also named the Hometown of Chinese Chili Peppers.
