There are many versions of Yuan Datou's one-yuan silver coins, and I will briefly mention them here.
First, the main editions in the Three Years of the Republic of China edition
The front of the Three Years of the Republic of China edition shows a profile of Yuan Shikai, with "Three Years of the Republic of China" listed above. There is no word "zao" after the word "年", and other year editions have the word "zao" after the word "year". There is a "dot" in the word "民" in the three-year version, but there is no "dot" in the word "民" in the other years' version. The three-year version has two types of molds: the old mold and the new mold. The old mold has 185 teeth and the new mold has 170 teeth. Both have larger casting volumes and are ordinary circulation versions. There are also several versions with smaller minting quantities:
1. "O" version. That is, there is an "O"-shaped hidden mark in the Jiahe pattern, a horizontal "8" shape at the Jiahe knot belt, a very small "O"-shaped circle in the upper left belt hole, and the collar of Yuan's chin is not closed. , the epaulettes are wider and the five stars are more prominent.
2. Coarse hair version. Yuan's hair is thicker and styled in waves. The Jiahe knot ribbon does not form a vertical and horizontal cross "8" knot pattern, and an irregular circle is formed on the right side of the Jiahe knot ribbon.
3. Triangular round version. The word "口" in the round character on the back of this coin forms a "△" shape, while other versions have a "厶" shape.
4. Open shell version. The bottom horizontal line of the word "贝" in the word "Yuan" of this coin is not connected with the vertical pen, forming an "open shell". The epaulette stripes of this version of Yuan's portrait are obvious, and there is a straight line from top to bottom in Yuan's eyes, commonly known as "open eyes". This feature is also not seen in other versions.
5. Add the word "Gansu". This coin was produced by the Mint of Lanzhou, Gansu Province, using the old model of the 3rd year of the Republic of China. It added the word "Gansu" to the left and right of the image of Yuan. The rest is the same as the open shell version, with a mintage of only tens of thousands.
6. Signature version. This is a trial coin produced by the Tianjin Mint and is not in circulation. The coin is engraved with a vertical English letter "L.GioRGi" on the right side of Yuan's portrait, which is the signature abbreviation of the Italian engraver "Rorge Giorgio", a foreign coinage expert in China.
7. "T" side, Yingyang side. These two coins are trial coins produced by the Tianjin Mint. The front and back patterns are the same as those of ordinary Yuan Datou in circulation, except that the edge teeth have a "T" shaped edge or an eagle-yang coin-shaped edge.
Second, the main editions of Yuan Datou’s eighth-year edition of the Republic of China
The ordinary edition of the eight-year edition has a larger circulation. The steel mold is made by a foreign country. The writing conforms to the structure of Chinese characters and the glyphs There is no variation, Jiahe is standardized and orderly. One feature is that there is an extra fine tooth on the front of the front of the breastplate of Yuan's image, but there is no gap (other era editions have a gap). In addition, there are several versions with smaller castings, which mainly have several differences in the writing of the word "Zao":
1. The third stroke of the word "Zao" is vertical from the fourth stroke. One side extends horizontally downward to form the character "牛", but it is not connected to the character "口" below, so it is called the "Niu" character version.
2. Some characters "Niu" and "口" are connected, so it is called Liankou version.
3. The word "口" in the word "Zhao" is missing the upper horizontal stroke, forming a gap, which is called a gap version.
4. The word "口" in the word "Zao" is very flat, and the middle hole cannot be seen in the word "口", so it is called a mouthless version.
Thirdly, there are two main types of the nine-year edition of the Republic of China. The nine-year edition mainly includes the Yuan Xiang unsealed collar edition and the big-ear edition. The former is an ordinary edition with a larger casting quantity, while the latter has a larger casting quantity. less. The big-ear version means that Yuan Xiang's ears are larger than other versions, and the collars are all closed collars.
Fourth, the main editions in the ten-year edition of the Republic of China
The ordinary edition in the ten-year edition has the same pattern and text as the ordinary Yuan Datou, and the casting quantity is larger. In addition, there are some in which one point in the character "year" is written in the shape of a vertical line or a "7", but the casting quantity is small.
In addition to the above-mentioned versions, there are many similar versions of the "Yuan Datou" one-yuan silver coin, and it is difficult for the author to describe them all.
