Many products have trademarks with two Zs on the front and back. However, because of its popularity, many brands have copied Zegna’s trademark. In 2013, Kangentai Co., Ltd., the operator of the Italian luxury brand Zegna, The company launched 21 lawsuits against Guangzhou Fuyin Trading Co., Ltd. This series of cases will be heard in the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court this week. The court has consolidated the hearing of four cases in which the defendants are Guangzhou Fuyin Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Friendship Store, and Hangzhou Yinxi Department Store. During the trial, the defendants denied infringement. According to prosecution materials, Kangentai is registered in Switzerland, and Zegna is the company's most famous brand. Since the 1980s, Zegna and its sub-brands have entered the Chinese market and have registered a series of trademarks in China, mainly in the field of men's clothing. Guangzhou Fuyin Trading Co., Ltd. is a local enterprise in Guangzhou established in 2011. It is mainly engaged in the production and sales of men's clothing and has its own brand "Jiesheng". Kangentai Company sued, claiming that in 2012, its staff purchased several clothing products suspected of trademark infringement produced and sold by the defendant at Friendship Store in Guangzhou and Yinxi Department Store in Hangzhou. These products are similar to Zegna brand products in many aspects such as trademarks and outer packaging bags, and are suspected of trademark infringement. During the trial, the plaintiff first presented a series of evidence accusing the defendant of plagiarizing trademarks. The plaintiff's attorney pointed out that the six trademarks under the "Zegna" brand, including "Double Z", "Zegna Sport" and the black and white stripe trademark, are all registered trademarks. However, the Jiesheng brand actually has six registered trademarks, which are identical and similar to the plaintiff's trademarks. The plaintiff believes that this all-round imitation has reached a particularly egregious level. At the court hearing, the plaintiff conducted cross-examination in court on the clothes involved in the case that had been notarized and sealed in advance and purchased from defendant dealers such as Guangzhou Friendship Mall. After on-site demonstrations, it was found that Jiesheng brand clothing, trousers and other products have almost the same logo as the plaintiff on packaging bags, trouser pockets, buttons, hang tags and other locations. "Except for slight differences in size, the defendant's products are no different. They are all-round imitations." The plaintiff's attorney said that the high price of the plaintiff's products lies in the fabrics, designs, and brand awareness used in the products. Because the plaintiff's brand has high added value, the defendant resorted to imitating and copying methods in an attempt to free ride on the plaintiff's brand and take the opportunity to raise its own prices. This kind of clinging has brought infringement injuries and huge economic losses to the plaintiff.
So it is better to go to a specialty store to buy genuine Zegna, otherwise you may buy "Li Gui".
