Evaluation of noise reduction effect of Philips FidelioL3 headphones: function and sound quality
Process details
The head beam of Philips FidelioL3 headphones adopts Muirhead imported leather (with outer band) and light aluminum. This smooth leather headband can give headphones a low-key and luxurious texture. Muirhead, founded in 1840, is a family business headquartered in Scotland, England, and is recognized as a global leader in responsible high-performance leather manufacturing. Another key product of Philips also uses imported leather from Muirhead ~ true wireless TWS noise-reducing headphones FidelioT 1.
L3' s earmuff ring is treated with aluminum alloy matte black satin surface technology. The top of the head beam is printed with embossed Fideliologo, and the outer side of the earmuff ring is printed with Philips brand logo. The outer earmuffs are designed with a circular shape and a small-angle cambered surface. The black satin aluminum alloy ring can moderately reduce the vibration effect caused by external force, and the earmuffs are fixed on the metal ring, which makes the earphone structure more stable. This design can effectively absorb vibration and make the sound output more stable.
Physical keys are distributed under the two shells of the earphone, the power-on key and USB charging jack are located on the left ear shell, while the listening mode switching key, the mobile phone voice wake-up function key and the stereo earphone cable interface are located under the right ear shell.
L3 adopts comfortable memory foam ear pad, combined with ergonomic design, which can reduce the pressure on the ear surface, reduce heat accumulation, better fit the ear shape, have good sealing effect, retain the best low-frequency response and reduce unnecessary external noise interference.
Delicate sound quality
L3 adopts 40mm neodymium drive unit independently developed by Philips, which can fully show the sound dynamics. The unique internal design of the cavity, including the central open tuning hole, is used to strengthen the output of intermediate frequency and low frequency, release abundant energy sense and show good detail clarity, thus bringing balanced bass and clear human voice. Using a light voice coil that is easy to drive can make the unit system have fast response and output high-definition sound quality while maintaining good rhythm consistency. The 40mm driver is equipped with high-power neodymium magnet, which can provide excellent high-fidelity sound quality and good micro-dynamic performance in a wide dynamic range, so that you won't miss every sound detail, and the subtle ups and downs in music can be objectively presented.
Philips' signature tuning style is exquisite and balanced in three frequencies, and the large-size unit can provide looser, more exquisite and freely retractable sound, which is the advantage of L3 in the hardware of speaker unit and incomparable to TWS true wireless earplugs. When playing wireless music with apt-XHD coding standard, you can get the highest sound quality output.
The earphone cavity adopts a closed structure, and a uniquely designed acoustic seal back cover is built in the cavity, which effectively eliminates sound leakage and suppresses bass loss. Closed design can reduce external noise interference and play a good sound insulation effect.
Equipped with Qualcomm QCC3034 chip, it supports high-quality Bluetooth audio coding modes, including apt-XHD/apt-X/AAC advanced Bluetooth audio coding formats. Whether your system is Apple or Android, you can enjoy the fun of high-quality wireless music.
Intelligent noise reduction
L3 is equipped with hybrid active noise reduction technology. Feedforward+after.
In the feedforward active noise reduction scheme, the feedforward microphone (used to detect environmental noise) is on the outside of the earmuffs, and the feedback microphone (based on the noise reduction processing chip and referring to environmental noise to generate a reflection copy) is on the inside. Microphone sensors and electronic systems are used to generate reverse copies of environmental noise and transmit them to people's ears. When the earphone unit produces a reverse copy of the environmental noise, the environmental noise will be greatly reduced. The noise reduction effect is mainly composed of fine tuning of electronic system and acoustic engineering and the application of passive sound insulation.
The internal core of L3 is the architecture of BT+ANC independent dual-chip combination. BT chip adopts independent Qualcomm QCC3034 Bluetooth communication chip, which can provide stable and smooth wireless connection, while ANC chip adopts Sony 3872 noise reduction chip, which can maintain sound quality and achieve remarkable noise reduction effect in noise reduction mode.
L3, like T 1, has four listening modes. When L3 is turned on, it defaults to noise reduction mode. Press the mode key on the right earmuff repeatedly to switch the listening mode. Users can switch the following four listening modes through the above operation cycle: "ANCON (noise reduction on)/Adaptive (/awareness) ON/ANCOF (noise reduction off)".
easy to operate
L3 supports Bluetooth 5. 1, the earphone is equipped with Qualcomm QCC3034 chip, and it has a powerful three-core processor architecture: dual-core 32-bit processor application subsystem and single-core 120MhzkalimbaDSP audio subsystem. It has the characteristics of low power consumption, high speed, high precision and strong anti-interference ability. In terms of audio coding, it can perfectly support apt-X and apt-XHD, and users who pursue sound quality can choose with confidence.
Support multi-point connection function, and can keep connection with two Bluetooth devices at the same time. Pair the headset with two Bluetooth output devices and switch between them. At any time, only one device can be used to play multimedia content such as music or movies, and the other device is used to answer the phone. After suspending the audio connection of one device, you can turn on the audio playback or call function of another device.
L3' s earmuffs have built-in infrared sensors, which can pause and play audio/video by detecting the wearing state of headphones.
When the earphone is removed or folded flat, the played audio/video file will be automatically paused, and when it is put back on, it will be automatically played. This intelligent wake-up function can be convenient for users to control and save electricity effectively.
The right ear cavity shell adopts integrated control, which is convenient for users to operate music and talk through touch control.
_ Music: Previous/Next, Volume+/-,Play/Pause
_ Incoming call: answer/hang up, refuse/wait/call transfer, etc.
By activating the quick reminder function, the user can quickly enter the ambient sound mode by covering the right earmuff with the palm of his hand, and can quickly turn down the music volume and amplify the ambient sound without taking off the earphone, which is convenient for talking with people temporarily and listening to the ambient sound information. Release your palm and return to the previous setting mode.
Experience sharing
In the center of the homepage interface, there is an ambient sound control switch. Turn on the ambient sound control switch, and there are three options. Click any option button to start the corresponding option. From left to right: noise control, ambient sound, adaptation. In fact, it is equivalent to noise reduction, ambient sound and adaptive state. Turning on noise control will turn on noise reduction mode.
Next to the ambient sound button, you can switch to the ambient sound mode after pressing it, and users can easily receive external ambient sound without taking off their headphones. After clicking to enter, there are two function options to choose from, one is ambient sound and the other is voice mode. Ambient sound modes have a variety of transparency options.
The button on the far right is in adaptive mode, which will automatically monitor and perceive the actual state of the user when using headphones and adjust the corresponding parameter settings that are most suitable for the environment.
Below these three listening mode selection buttons is the sound output selection bar of headphones. Open the sound effect selection, and there are four preset sound effect modes, as shown below.
In addition, there are user-defined modes, as shown below.
Friends who like to listen to the original sound output can turn off the sound bar.
In addition, there is a set button next to the home menu.
Click to enter the settings directory menu, and the "Wear Sensor" option in the top first column is for your attention. Turn on the switch, and the earphone will turn on the wear sensor in the earmuffs. When the user takes off the earphone during use, the earphone will automatically pause the music/video playback, and when the user puts on the earphone again, the sensor will automatically sense and identify it and control the music/video to continue playing.
Use your senses.
More than 300 grams of headphones are nothing compared with some wired headphones. Among Bluetooth headsets, I can only say L3 is medium size. After wearing it, the earmuffs on both sides will slightly compress the ears. Users with small heads and ears will feel less obvious. The elasticity of the head beam is obvious, so users with large head shapes will feel a little more pressure on both sides of their heads after wearing headphones. Of course, users with small heads can basically ignore this feeling, especially when they use it for a long time. Once they feel uncomfortable, they have to take off their headphones and have a rest before using them.
In terms of noise reduction, it can basically cope with daily subway commuting, while the car engine and general noise on the roadside have basically significantly reduced the effect, so there is no chance to do tests on high-speed trains and planes for the time being. According to official data, the noise reduction can reach 40dB. Even if the noise of the big engine cannot be completely reduced, the effect will not be too bad. I'll try again later.
The clarity of the call is satisfactory. Anyway, dual microphones are not very demanding of me. That's enough, the voice doesn't need to be very loud, and you can basically hear each other's voice clearly.
Summary:
Philips L3 is a headset with good practicality and sound quality. As far as products are concerned, all aspects are quite balanced. In terms of sound, the tri-band distribution is fairly balanced, and the bass is slightly less than expected. If you strengthen the dive, the effect will be better. I tried several sound effects. Personally, I prefer to turn off the sound effects. Of course, if I have to choose an outdoor one, I recommend "strong" sound effects, so I don't care about indoor ones. Because of the time, we won't discuss custom sound effects here. There are few frequency response selection points, so it is difficult to subdivide, so it is not easy to adjust the sound effect (curve) I am used to.
In terms of sound insulation, I think physical noise reduction is not bad, especially in indoor environments, such as offices, cafes and restaurants. Human voice noise is the main factor. The physical noise reduction generated by the earmuff sponge pad is basically enough, and the external noise is also enough after the music is turned on. I usually use noise reduction mode when walking in subway, station, bus or street.
In terms of connection, connecting a mobile phone will be more stable than some Android players, and connecting two audio sources at the same time. When selecting apt-XHD and switching audio sources, there will be occasional jams, but it is not serious.
I used it for two weeks, and combined with the real wireless headphones I used before, I was basically satisfied with the sound of Philips FidelioL3. Supporting apt-XHD is an important selling point of my product. Although the Bluetooth headset can't tangle the sound too much, it can sometimes support high-definition audio, which still has considerable advantages. Closed design, physical noise reduction will be relatively open, which is also a small advantage in use. After all, there is no need to use noise reduction in some occasions. On the contrary, I don't care much about face value. Finally, the comfort of wearing. Personally, I think the comfort of the sponge pad of earmuffs is ok, but the headphones are slightly stuck and easy to swell after wearing for a long time.
