Marmot's name comes from the "marmot", a creature that lives in alpine areas all year round. In 1971, Eric Reno and Dave Huntley of the University of California, Santa Cruz, established a club for glacier research and named it after "Marmot." It's easy to become a member of the club in the first place. You just need to climb an ice peak with the old members to join.
