Extended information:

Marmot's name comes from the "marmot", a creature that lives in alpine areas all year round. In 1971, Eric Reno and Dave Huntley of the University of California, Santa Cruz, established a club for glacier research and named it after "Marmot." It's easy to become a member of the club in the first place. You just need to climb an ice peak with the old members to join.

This attracted many friends who like outdoor sports to sign up, and the number of people increased day by day, resulting in a shortage of equipment. The important thing is that there was no better sports equipment in the 1870s.

Such a situation triggered Eric and the others to think. "We cannot stop because of equipment problems. In the future, there will be people who like outdoor sports as much as we do. Do we have to give up?"

In the spring of 1974, MARMOT MOUNTAIN WORKS was established. They rented an old grocery store as their studio, where product design, production, and sales are all carried out. In 1976, Marmot began to cooperate with Gore Company and introduced GORE-Tex.
