Sticking the word "Fu" has pinned people's yearning for happiness. In order to fully reflect this yearning and pursuit, many places simply put the word "Fu" upside down and use the homonym of the word "Fu" to express the meaning of "Fu is here". This custom will not be earlier than the early Ming Dynasty. There are three interesting legends about the origin of the word "Fu".
The first type: Gong said.
On the eve of the Spring Festival in Xianfeng period of Qing Dynasty, the housekeeper of Gongwangfu wrote a few words of "Fu" to please his master, and people posted them on the gates of warehouses and Wang Fu. Unable to read, the family pasted the word "Fu" upside down on the gate. To this end, Prince Gong's Fujin (wife) was very angry and wanted to be punished by flogging. Fortunately, the big housekeeper is a talkative person. He was afraid that Fujin would blame him and bring trouble on himself. He quickly knelt down and stated, "I have often heard that Prince Gong lived a long life and made a fortune. Now Dafu has really fallen (arrived), which is a good omen. " Hearing this, Prince Gong Fujin turned his anger into joy and thought: No wonder passers-by say that Prince Gong is blessed. He spoke Kyrgyz thousands of times, and gold and silver increased. Ordinary slaves really can't think of this trick! So I gave the housekeeper and servant 50 yuan each.
The second type: Empress Dowager Cixi said
In ancient China, there was a custom of writing big characters on the 24th of the twelfth lunar month. On the 24th of the twelfth lunar month in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi ordered to write some couplets in the Imperial Academy to celebrate the Spring Festival. These academicians tried their best to use colorful words and then gave them to the queen mother for a look. The queen mother was very unhappy to see that there was not even a word "fu" in it. Seeing that Lafayette was angry, Hanlin people knelt on the ground in fear and said, "Please ask Lafayette for advice." The queen mother said, "Go and write a few words of' Fu'." Academicians went back and wrote a bunch of "fu" characters. The Queen Mother chose a few from them and asked Li, the general manager, to post them everywhere in the palace with eunuchs.
Who knows, it has caused another storm. A eunuch, illiterate, posted a word "fu" upside down, and no one found it that night. The next day, the Queen Mother came out to enjoy the couplets and the word "Fu". She happened to see Li, who was about to get angry and had a sharp brain turn, hurried forward and said, "Lafayette, please calm down, this is my slave's intentional posting." The word' fu' in turn means that' fu' has fallen, which is good luck. " After hearing this, Cixi turned anger into joy. Not only did she not punish the eunuch, but she also gave him a few taels of silver.
The third type: Zhu Yuanzhang and Ma Huanghou said
This is probably derived from the legend of the origin of the word "Fu". After the Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang captured Nanjing, he ordered his confidants to quietly put a word "Fu" on the doors of those who had supported and helped him, so that all those who didn't have the word "Fu" on the doors were killed by the thieves the next day. Good Ma Huanghou learned about this situation. In order to eliminate this disaster, all families in the city must put "Fu" on their doors overnight. So every household obeyed the imperial edict, and one of them, surnamed Liao, was illiterate and even wrote the word "Fu" upside down. The next day, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the guards to chop down people who didn't post the word "Fu". Unexpectedly, in a short time, the head of the body guard reported that every household in the city had posted the word "Fu". Zhu Yuanzhang was so angry that he did not know what to do. The head of the guard added that one family had pasted the word "Fu" upside down on the door. Zhu Yuanzhang was furious and immediately ordered the body-guard to kill the whole family. Seeing that something was wrong, Ma Huanghou said to Zhu Yuanzhang, "The family knew that you were visiting today, and deliberately put the word' Fu' upside down. Isn't that what' Fu' means? " After hearing the truth, Zhu Yuanzhang gave up the idea of killing people, thus avoiding a catastrophe. Since then, someone has turned the word "fu" upside down.
Nowadays, more and more people like to post the word "Fu" backwards, but some people object to this practice. In fact, whether the word "fu" is posted directly or reversely, it is the embodiment of people's good wishes.
