The court ruled that Li Yang and his wife Li Jin should be divorced. In the judgment, the four major doubtful points of "domestic violence", "bigamy", "child custody" and "property division" that netizens are most concerned about in this divorce case have all been responded to.
Does Li Yang’s behavior constitute domestic violence?
In October 2011, Li Yang, the founder of "Crazy English", was sued for divorce by his wife KIM LEE LI on the grounds of domestic violence. This divorce case attracted public attention from the beginning. Later, the exposure of Li Yang's text message threats and the "bigamy scandal" made this high-profile divorce case even more turbulent.
Li Yang and Li Jin became attached to each other because of their common career "Crazy English", but the most direct factor that led to the breakdown of this transnational marriage was domestic violence. At the end of August 2011, Li Jin posted several photos on Weibo, directly accusing her husband Li Yang of committing domestic violence against her. On December 15, 2011, after the first court session, Li Yang said in an interview with the media that he only had a "big conflict" with Li Jin and did not use domestic violence.
In his defense to the court, Li Yang stated that "disputes, beatings and scoldings between husband and wife do not necessarily constitute legal domestic violence." Previously, on September 9, Li Yang publicly admitted committing domestic violence on his Weibo and apologized to his wife and everyone.
The court found that in February 2006, the two had a dispute over trivial matters, and Li Yang beat Li Jin. On August 30, 2011, the two parties had a dispute over their daughter's education and family matters in their residence in Beijing. Li Yang beat Li Jin again, causing multiple injuries to Li Jin's head and legs. Li Jin later reported the case to the Tuanjiehu Police Station of the Chaoyang Branch of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. The Chaoyang Court held that according to Article 1 of the Judicial Interpretation (1) of the Marriage Law, Li Yang’s beating of Li Jin in August 2011 met the constituent elements of domestic violence and was an act of domestic violence. The court thus ruled in favor of Li Jin’s 50,000 yuan compensation for mental damages.
Is there "bigamy" in Li Yang?
On December 11, 2012, Li Jin revealed through Weibo that Li Yang had not officially divorced her when he married her, and accused Li Yang of deliberately using this reason to delay the divorce judgment. The court found that Li Yang and his ex-wife Lin registered their marriage at the Civil Affairs Bureau of Dongshan District, Guangzhou City in May 1995. In April 1999, the two parties agreed to divorce at the Civil Affairs Bureau. In May 2000, Li Yang and Lin went through the remarriage procedures at the Civil Affairs Bureau. In November 2006, Lin and Li Yang reached an agreement to divorce at the Civil Affairs Bureau of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City.

Custody

She believed that Li Yang had committed domestic violence, so she asked the court to order her to directly raise her three daughters.
Li Yang has also expressed his love and longing for his three daughters in public many times. In his defense to the court, Li Yang said that he agreed to divorce Li Jin, but asked to directly raise his three daughters. He felt confident that he could take good care of his three daughters.
It is understood that the presiding judge sought the opinion of the eldest daughter Li Li on this matter, and Li Li expressed her willingness to live with her mother. In addition, based on the circumstances clarified in the court review, the court held that Li Jin had lived with his three daughters for a long time, and changing the living and educational environment was obviously detrimental to their growth. According to the court, the case was heard four times, and the court organized multiple mediations between the plaintiff and the defendant on the division of property. , Li Yang and Li Jin later reached an agreement on this issue. Accordingly, the court finally ruled that Li Yang’s property, company equity, registered trademarks and other properties should still be owned by Li Yang, but Li Yang must Pay a property discount of 12 million yuan to Li Jin within 3 months from the date of judgment.
