IE's predecessor is a software called Mosaic, which was developed by NCSA in 1987. It is the first browser to support graphical user interface, which is of epoch-making significance. Mosaic's technology and trademark are licensed to a company named Spyglass, a software company established by the University of Illinois at 1990, with the purpose of transforming WWW technology into commercial applications.
1995, Spyglass officially licensed the source code of Mosaic to Microsoft, and the Internet Explorer browser was officially born. Interestingly, Netscape browser and IE browser have the same blood company. Many programmers who develop Netscape browsers are responsible for launching Mosaic. In fact, Netscape Browser was called Mosaic Netscape in 1994.
