Due to her poor family, Tao Huabi has never read a day since she was a child. At the age of 20, she married a member of the 206 Geological Team. But within a few years, her husband died of illness, leaving her and their two children behind. In order to survive, she can only go to other places to work and run a street vendor.
In 1989, Tao Huabi built a simple restaurant with a little money saved by frugality and bricks picked up from everywhere, specializing in jelly and cold noodles. To accompany the meal, she specially made spicy sauce, and her business was very prosperous. One day, Tao Huabi felt dizzy after getting up, so she did not go to the market to buy peppers. Unexpectedly, when customers come to eat, they turn around and leave as soon as they hear that there is no spicy sauce. This incident touched Tao Huabi greatly.
She immediately spotted the potential of spicy sauce and started researching it with concentration. After several years of repeated trial production, the spicy sauce she made has a more unique flavor. After eating the jelly, many customers bought some spicy sauce to take home. There were even some people who didn't eat jelly but came to buy her spicy sauce. Later, her jelly business became worse and worse, but the spicy sauce was not enough to sell no matter how much she made.
One day at noon, after her spicy sauce was sold out, there were no customers eating jelly. She closed the shop and visited more than 10 restaurants and food stalls selling jelly, and found that their business was very good, because these people bought the spicy sauce from her. Since then, she no longer sells spicy sauce alone.
After a period of preparation, Tao Huabi gave up the restaurant she had worked so hard for many years. In July 1996, she rented two houses in Yunguan Village Committee, Nanming District, Guiyang City, recruited workers, and set up a food processing factory, specializing in the production of spicy sauce, named "Laoganma" spicy sauce.
Although the output at the beginning of the factory was very low, local jelly shops still couldn't digest it. Tao Huabi personally carried the spicy sauce and sent it to various food stores and canteens of various units for trial sales. Within a week, those test sellers called her and asked her to double the delivery. A year later, "Laoganma" spicy sauce passed the test of the market and firmly established itself in Guiyang City.
