Speaking of folding screen mobile phones, everyone will definitely not feel unfamiliar. This form of mobile phone has gained considerable momentum in the past two years, and many consumers have expressed their desire to purchase it. But the problem is that due to the high difficulty of this technology, many companies are on the sidelines or keeping secrets about research and development. Even Apple has never been reported to develop a device with a folding screen. Currently, only a few companies such as Huawei and Samsung have developed it. Mobile phone manufacturers have launched folding screen mobile phones.
The folding screen mobile phones currently on the market are nothing more than vertical folding methods such as Samsung Galaxy Flip, or horizontal inward or outward folding methods such as Xiaomi MIX FOLD.
On May 19, foreign media reported that Samsung recently submitted a new trademark registration application to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). According to the published information, the new product trademark is "Galaxy Z Roll", its classification is Category 9, which includes devices such as smartphones, and may also support S-Pen, because it says "Smartphones, electronic pens for smartphones; mobile phones; telecommunications equipment."
From the name, "Roll" means that the smartphone will have a roll-type display, while "Z" refers to the fact that the device will be part of the Galaxy Z series.
It is reported that the design scheme adopted by Samsung Galaxy Z Roll is relatively close to that previously announced by OPPO. When the phone is rolled up, it is basically equivalent to a normal mobile phone, but when it is unfolded and used, it is hidden in the phone. The internal folding area will slide out and become a complete large screen.
A few days ago, Samsung’s display department released several pictures showing their latest display technology. These pictures will be displayed at this week’s International Society for Information Display (SID), which largely points to Samsung’s next generation folding screen mobile phone product. These include a variety of folding screen designs: tri-fold screens, roll-up screens and large-size foldable screens.
A few days ago, Samsung submitted 4 trademarks with accompanying logos to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). These trademarks are UTG 2.0, UTG+, S-UTG and DragonGlass. The descriptions of these four trademarks all refer to “smartphone screens.” Samsung has applied for so many trademarks during this period to pave the way for new products, and has put a lot of effort into the screens of smartphones. People can't help but look forward to the next generation of folding phones.
Samsung has always attached great importance to the protection of intellectual property rights. Although it is currently uncertain when Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Roll, and whether it will be released is also unknown, the relevant trademarks still need to be registered in advance.
A few days ago, Xiaomi’s “Redmi” trademark and Huawei’s “Hongmeng” trademark were “squattingly registered” and caused a lot of noise. As both mobile phone manufacturers, Xiaomi and Huawei encountered the same trademark problem. Because they did not have a good trademark layout in advance, they fell into a passive situation. After all, for a trademark that has been successfully registered, even if you want to reject the application or declare it invalid, it still requires very complicated review steps.
It can be seen that once trademark similarity occurs, the difficulty of obtaining trademark rights will skyrocket. In our country, trademarks follow the first-to-register principle. Therefore, "the market has not moved, trademarks go first" has been widely recognized by enterprises. In addition, at the beginning of trademark registration, you must do a good job in trademark search, analyze the possibility of successful trademark registration, and consider the risk of trademark registration failure.
