The Patent Agency Department of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade was formally established in 1984 and authorized by the State Council to become China's first foreign-related patent agency. In 1993, the above two agencies merged to form the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Patent and Trademark Office.
