On May 28, 1937, the German Democratic Party established the "Volkswagen AG" in Berlin, or the "People's Automobile Company of Germany". On September 16, 1938, the company was renamed Volkswagen AG. The Volkswagen trademark was registered at the German Patent Office in Munich in October 1948.
