BMW changed its trademark.
Audi changed its name and Mercedes-Benz canceled EQ series. Because of the appearance of trams, traditional luxury car companies seem to be very keen to change their names.

Recently, BMW, which is also a first-line luxury brand, seems to have this plan. According to foreign media reports, BMW has submitted the trademark registration information of all models to the German Trademark Patent Office. Although this move does not completely prove that BMW will change its name at present, at least it is very likely.

Previously, BMW generally used numbers to represent its vehicle series, and added three English suffixes according to different types of powertrains: D (diesel version), I (gasoline version) and E (plug-in hybrid version).

With the overall increase of electric vehicles, BMW's existing naming method is somewhat confusing. Most electric vehicles are prefixed with the letter "I", such as i4, iX, iX 1, i7, etc. At the same time, there are specific English numeral combinations to indicate the vehicle configuration, including IXdrive 40, i4 M50, i3 xDrive40 and so on.

Obviously, such a complicated combination is hard to remember for a while, and it is not difficult to understand why BMW has to submit a new named trademark in the near future.

According to the documents submitted, BMW has changed the names of most of its models, especially pure electric vehicles. Among them, X740, X750, X760 and iX740, iX750 and iX760 are registered for BMW X7 and future iX7 (pure electric version). The fuel version X740 refers to the power configuration of X7 model +40, and the iX760 also refers to iX7 model +60.

BMW X3 and iX3 registered X320, X330, iX330, iX340 and iX350 respectively, in which the fuel version X320 refers to the X3 model +20 power configuration; Similarly, iX350 refers to the power configuration of iX3 model +50.

The new naming method also includes its best-selling 3 Series, including i320, i330 and i340, which means that i3 will provide all kinds of pure electric assemblies in the future. At the same time, BMW also applied for the trademark M350, which has no "I" prefix, which seems to indicate that M350 may be a fuel vehicle and may replace the current M340i.

The naming registration information of other BMW models is as follows:

Bmw 1 series and i 1 registration: i 1 18, i 120, i 130, I140;

BMW X 1, iX 1 Place of registration: X 130, iX 120, IX130; ;

BMW X2 and iX2 registration: iX220, iX230, iX240;;

BMW 4 Series and i4 Series Registration: i420, i430, i450;;

BMW X4, iX4 registration: X420, iX430, iX440, iX450;;

BMW 5 Series and i5 Registration: i530, i550;;

BMW X5, iX5 Registration: X540, X550, X560, iX540, iX550, IX 560.

BMW X6, iX6 registration: X640, X650, iX640, iX650, iX660;;

BMW 7 Series, i7 Registration: i740, i750, i760;;

In addition, for four-wheel drive models, the new naming will still add the suffix xDrive, such as: i530 xDrive, i760 xDrive, etc.
