Early history

Burberry brand was founded in 1856. At that time, Thomas Burberry, who was 2 1 year-old and used to be an apprentice in a cloth shop, opened his own shop in basingstoke, a small town in the northeast of Hampshire, England. By 1870, relying on the development of outdoor clothing, Burberry's business has become a well-known store.

1879, Thomas Burberry invented an innovative rain-proof gabardine fabric. This kind of cotton fabric is not only rainproof, but also practical and durable. At the same time, it is breathable and light, which makes the heavy traditional raincoat clothing look brand-new.

Old-fashioned rainproof clothes are mostly made of cloth and coated with rubber on one side, which is hard and heavy. The appearance of gabardine fabric improved the above situation, which was welcomed and patented in 1888.
