The planning and launch of the Visual Strategic Alliance in 2011 marked the gathering of China’s cutting-edge design forces. The strategic alliance of young and middle-aged designers aims to promote the establishment of an optimized and effectively communicated cultural and business environment in Chinese society. The alliance currently has 11 founders and 68 members.
Mainly committed to design promotion, management, curation and exploration and research of Chinese graphic design in the context of philosophy. Focus on the influence of Taoist philosophy, interpersonal relations, psychology, and marketing on designers’ spiritual world and the formation of design concepts, as well as in-depth research on related theories.
Exploration of Chinese graphic design in a philosophical context, the geometric shape of designers’ spiritual power, the lifeline of commercial designers, and the theory of self-promotion of designers.
At the end of 2010, Wu Zhonghao began planning to establish a non-profit online organization, the Visual Strategy Alliance. At that time, he wanted to recruit emerging designers born in the 1980s who worked in design companies and advertising companies through online media. Wu Zhonghao made the following summary: Designers born in the 1980s who work in design companies will use their spare time to participate in many design activities, such as participating in some design competitions. In the field of commercial design, we can do some academic-related design activities. This This type of exercise has a very good development trend. Planning such an organization can bring everyone together to work together and develop on the road of design.
When faced with how to weigh the relationship between work and life, he has always emphasized that "life comes first". Only by getting the life you want can you enter a better working state. In most of his spare time, he allowed himself to integrate into his life and work in a relaxed state. He said that this would make his work and life better. In addition, he proposed that designers should travel and study regularly every year to improve their vision and design experience. He believes that most design inspiration comes from social practice. If students are simply told that design comes from life, it may be difficult for students to understand it, so they need to get the truth from practice.
For design, he has always advocated "design is intangible", believing that design should be unfettered and can break conventions at will to form new design effects. He told us that designers should express all possible designs in a state of "exchanging the tangible for the intangible."
He joined the international membership of ICOGRADA in 2011, becoming the 220th member in the world and one of only 12 members in China. Teachers Wang Min and Xiao Yong from CAFA are also included. Recalling that he was invited by Marilena Farruggia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ICOGRADA, to attend the outdoor graphic design exhibition in London, England, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ICOGRADA and the 27th anniversary of World Communication Design Day (WCDD), he personally felt that this was a rare opportunity to meet with designers from various countries. Conduct exchanges and collisions on design ideas. Although this exhibition itself is not a purely academic exhibition, it represents the development situation of commercial design. He hopes to better display Chinese culture through this event, so this invitation is of great significance to him.
He was deeply honored when he received the invitation to the World Design Congress hosted in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, in November 2013. In this regard, he talked to us about the theme of the World Design Congress - "Design Dialect", and the theme of his work is the discovery of China, and it is also the theme work invited to participate in the Shanghai Asian Graphic Design Biennale. This work uses traditional Chinese inscriptions as design elements, uses international visual symbols to combine Chinese and English, and forms new visual effects through the deconstruction and recombination of Chinese and English fonts. The entire series of works gives people a sense of combination of movement and stillness, revealing the Chinese cultural connotation of virtuality and reality, and embodying the integration of traditional Chinese culture and modern visual culture.
Personal concept
A work is a movie and a story
When he learned that the work "Future" won the award, he felt surprised and happy. He recalled that that day happened to be Saturday. When he woke up in the morning, he opened his mailbox and saw an email from the organizing committee, telling him that his work had won first place. He laughed and said: "I didn't even believe my eyes at the first moment. I looked at it repeatedly before I was sure." The organizing committee also posted the news on Facebook the next day.
The creation of the "Future" work was invited to participate in the Czech NEWFORM international graphic design invitational exhibition planned by Chinese designer Xu Li in the Czech Republic at that time. He initially conceived the idea of ??using a different approach to create, hoping to make a breakthrough compared to previous design styles.
He likes movies very much, because he believes that movies can express a very explosive film art through a small character story, so he sometimes analyzes the works of many foreign poster masters, such as the posters of Gunteran Castle and Kali Bibo. work.
He believes that every poster work is a movie and a story, but in reality, what we can see is just a process, and what we absorb may only be the one-sidedness of the work. Everyone has different opinions on the work. There are different understandings. In his design work "Future", he wants to express such a story, and reflect the process of character development in the expression of the theme. Everyone has his own future. He considers children as an element, a beginning - the future of contemporary children requires our attention. He said that the work "Future" uses black and white as a strong visual impact and uses a huge circle to highlight the feelings of emptiness, confusion, struggle, pain and helplessness, giving people space for wild thinking and bringing spiritual excitement. touch. German design master Gunter Rambaugh of the jury once commented: "Future works are different from any style of Chinese poster design. They have unique personal thoughts and charm. I see that new stars in Asian poster design are rising."
Design serves society and groups
When talking about the current situation of China's design industry, he said: "Only by observing the trends can people do better." In these years of business and academic wandering Among them, he has his own way of dealing with commercial design and academic design. One is how to cater to commercial design, and the other is how to create and study academic design. The current situation of commercial design is like a vast ocean, stretching as far as the eye can see, with no fixed design language. However, he personally has always classified commercial design as a service industry, with design serving society and the group. When facing customers' suggestions, you should use your professionalism to convince the other party and try to retain your own design point of view. You need to integrate, compare, and think about the customer's suggestions with your own design expertise.
In previous academic exchanges, he believed that foreign designers pay more attention to the design of graphics and fonts, while domestic designers have a relatively superficial understanding of graphics, although graphic design has been introduced in teaching. This course has only a simple understanding of graphics, and it has not been better promoted and applied in the later period. China pays more attention to traditional design models. Although English appears in many design works, the overall design ideas in Chinese and English are still very Chinese. The gap is gradually narrowing. Many international academic exchanges and overseas education have enabled Chinese design concepts to continue to break the inherent model.
He mentioned that during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, the country has been advocating the vigorous development of cultural industries. Pan Lusheng, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, proposed the establishment and implementation of a national design strategy. He believed that this strategy has far-reaching influence. In fact, in China, the national There has always been a vacancy in design strategy, but the United States and the United Kingdom have begun the development and injection of cultural industries very early. my country's neighboring countries Japan and South Korea have played a key role in technological innovation, industrial upgrading, economic transformation, and competition among major powers, while China It has not been developed and implemented in more in-depth research, so as designers, we also hope that Chinese design can truly establish and implement a national design strategy, realize industrial innovation-driven development, cultural inheritance and development, and integrate with international standards.
He said that China's design profession is developing rapidly, but there are many problems. He believes that on the one hand, it is the lack of overall design strategy, and on the other hand, the academic form cultivated by schools does not have more practical design. need. Teachers in colleges and universities generally have a master's degree or a doctorate degree, or have studied abroad and entered colleges and universities with a high background. They have a high theoretical level, but have not been exposed to real business design and lack practical experience. They don’t know what commercial design is in the true sense and what students need. Therefore, it is difficult for the students they train to be competent in commercial design requirements, and they will be seriously derailed from business after graduation. I think that future college teachers need to have a commercial design background, and their teaching should be combined with the development of China's cultural industry. Only in this way can the students trained truly understand the value of commercial design and be competent in commercial design work.
"Any color can fade, only black and white are eternal"
In 2011-2012, he won the first place at the 2012 World Poster Exhibition in Leipzig, Germany, and the "GOOD50X70 "The Best Design Award of the 5th Italian Social Poster Competition, the Special Award of the 8th Ukrainian International Ecological Poster Triennial, the first prize of the 8th Italian International Graphic and Graphic Design Exhibition and many other awards, for him personally participating in the competition The process can greatly inspire yourself and strengthen your creative beliefs.
The jury once commented on his work: "A lonely figure appears in the round light, which is a distinct image emphasized by the word 'future', reflecting strong visual appeal." And he He has this opinion: "Except for some posters of specific subjects, my works are all black and white works, because I believe that "any color can fade, only black and white are eternal," so he He has a special liking for black and white. The jury's comment on his work is that it triggers many people's thinking by focusing on personal destiny. Graphic design is not just a simple expression of a thing or a graphic, but more importantly, it rises to a spiritual level. , with emotional expression. "A work is like a story, it has certain malleability and inspiration, and it also needs a process. So often look at the design works of masters, savor their design ideas carefully, and be good at summarizing, you can gain a lot.
Designers want business and academics to go hand in hand
He hopes to continue to create new design works in his future creations and have his own place in academic design. The most important core issue in commercial design is not design but communication, and communication is greater than design. Therefore, a designer must have profound knowledge and write more copywriting, because a good designer must be a good "copywriter." He has longing for the future, hoping to enter college teaching in five or ten years, and continue to inject the commercial design experience he has learned into teaching, so that students can appreciate the world of commercial design while learning.
He has been paying attention to the current situation of college students majoring in design. He recalled that when he was working in Beijing, he had communicated with many students from CAFA and learned that many students at school felt confused and did not know what they wanted. What, and eager to learn more. He believes that college students should practice more. After all, the resources provided by the school are limited, and there are many things that require social practice to understand. Early exposure to commercial design is a good preparation for graduation, so that you can be better qualified in commercial design when you graduate. In addition, I encourage you to participate in more design competitions during college, exercise your thinking, create more good works, and pave the way for your future. On November 11, 2011, and May 17, 2012, he gave lectures at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Shandong Academy of Arts and Crafts respectively. In the lectures, he shared his design concepts and experiences. He believed that while we are doing business well, we should also Do some corresponding academic activities. On the other hand, he said that designers should learn to improve themselves and promote themselves. Designers should be good at promoting themselves and establishing their own image while doing good design. and emphasized that business and academia go hand in hand.

Work Evaluation
Design Works in Pursuing a unique composition, a unique relationship between black and white, and a strong sense of graphics, he is always using his inner vision to expand those who are alienated, feel alienated or refuse alienation in our era, and use extremely simple graphics to express some of their feelings. This kind of overwhelming sense of depression and loneliness, many creative works reflect a social concept and the impact on the individual's heart brought about by people at the bottom of society. Simple, concise and spiritual graphic works, while expressing the inner nature of the work, reflect the penetrating power of the work into the appearance of reality. The so-called graphic power, a work can be simple and plain, but the graphic power it conveys is powerful. Everyone seems to be in a state of sober and painful consciousness all the time, and they feel the existence of life extremely. I want to use graphic design to care for ordinary people, and first of all, respect secular life.
In the slow flow of time, you can feel the joy or heaviness of every ordinary life. The graphic works combine Western graphic design concepts with traditional Chinese philosophical concepts. The graphic works focus on the rational analysis of human nature, and are full of speculative colors without losing philosophy. Edge
